Topbox Review - January 2019 - Canadian Beauty Subscription Box

Canadian Box Addict pays for this box. This review was written by Hayley.

What is it? Topbox
How Much? $12 per month, plus tax. Shipping included. Prices in Canadian dollars.
What’s in it? 4 deluxe beauty samples

Topbox is a Canadian subscription service that sends four deluxe samples from top beauty brands each month. Topbox is the premiere monthly beauty subscription box in Canada and at only $12 per month, plus tax, it's an affordable option for those just getting into the world of beauty boxes. Topbox includes a mix of skincare, hair care, and cosmetics.. They tend to feature higher end drugstore and department store brands, along with some niche brands.

The product card comes to your e-mail inbox after the box ships.

First look! Topbox recently switched from bubble mailers to cardboard boxes as they're more environmentally friendly.

Steve Laurant Velvet Matte Liquid Lipstick in First Lady - Full Size ($22)
This matte, weightless, long wear liquid lipstick offers full coverage color with a velvet like finish that glides on smoothly and lasts all day. Our super intense pigment will dry 100% matte, creating that perfect, transfer proof look!
This is a very pretty shade of lipstick. The lasting power is just okay, but I love the look it gives.

Purlisse Watermelon Aqua Balm (10ml, $9)
A lightweight, oil-free gel cream that instantly energizes, refreshes, soothes skin while providing hydration. WATERMELON is packed with Vitamins A, B & C and keeps skin energized and hydrated, ALOE VERA helps reduce inflammation, WHITE TEA protects skin from cellular damage and CUCUMBER helps soothe and firm skin.
I am annoyed as I just received this exact same product in my October 2018 Topbox. However, this balm is super moisturizing and refreshing! It was great for my dry skin; it made it soft and left it feeling refreshed.

Prevailing Organics Lip Scrub in French Vanilla (~$1.59)
A lip scrub that provide moisture and hydration for the lip.
This was such an odd product to find in my Topbox. Also, look at the horrible grammar in the above caption from the product card. It is cool to see Topbox support a small Canadian business, but it is not a product I expected to see. I also don’t like it.

Truffle Therapy Cleansing Oil is a blend of fine active ingredients and essential oils that deeply cleanse and purify the skin. It can be used as a makeup remover that removes makeup and leaves the skin incredibly soft and hydrated. Can be used daily.
I think some people may get good results from this or may have a different opinion, but personally I did not enjoy it. It was effective at removing my makeup, however.

My January Topbox included four products with a retail value of $37.09, which is a lower value for Topbox. We have two full size products and two deluxe samples. It's a decent mix of products this month with skincare and lip products. I am super annoyed with the product repeat from October 2018, and think this box is underwhelming and lacklustre. Overall, a crappy start to the year for Topbox. Was your box any better?
