What’s in it? 5-7 yoga lifestyle products

Namaslay Box is a Canadian lifestyle box service, based in Montreal. Since my last review in March, Namaslay has made a few changes. The main changes are they are now a monthly box instead of bi-monthly and billing is in US instead of Canadian. The focus of Namaslay Box is "wellness lifestyle". The aim is to help support your calmness and well being, and make you a cleaner and healthier yogi. Boxes may include products like aromatherapy, natural skincare, healthy snacks, organic tea, and home items. Subscribe by the 25th to receive the next month's box. Boxes ship on the 10th of the month

Before receiving this box, subscribers were e-mailed to alert them to a shipping issue. Namaslay changed shipping methods, resulting in unexpected COD charges for all subscribers and reviewers. My COD charge was $11.97. I was happy to see Shruti was pro-active and alerted subscribers in advance, and also was pleased to see she would be issuing refunds for the charges.

When I looked more closely at my box, it looks like Namaslay is now shipping from the US via DHL. DHL is the absolute worst. Please, please, please - if you are a sub box company and you are reading this, DO NOT use DHL to ship to Canada. Shruti says they are shipping from the US now in hopes of reducing costs, but due to the issue with DHL, they will be looking at new options going forward.

As shown in the intro picture, this month's box included a book. The book and box shipped together in a mailing bag. As soon as I opened the bag, I knew there was a problem. There was a very strong smell of lavender, which is usually a good indication that something leaked. Upon opening the box, sure enough, I found damp and stained tissue paper and insert cards.

The bottle on the left was unscrewed (nearly completely) and half empty. The liquid leaked out onto most of the items in the box. I e-mailed Shruti about this as well and she offered to send replacement items or replace the entire box. She also assured me that they be more careful with packaging in future boxes.

Yoga Girl by Rachel Brathen ($23.99 CDN retail)
Whether she’s practicing handstands on her stand-up paddleboard or teaching Downward-Facing Dog to the masses, Rachel Brathen—Instagram’s @Yoga_Girl—has made it her mission to share inspirational messages with people from all corners of the world. In Yoga Girl, Brathen takes readers beyond her Instagram feed and shares her journey like never before—from her self-destructive teenage years in her hometown in Sweden to her adventures in the jungles of Costa Rica, and finally to the beautiful and bohemian life she’s built through yoga and meditation in Aruba today.
I've never heard of this gal, but I will be sure to look her up on Instagram.

This 176 page full-colour paperback includes loads of poses with step-by-step photos!

HumbleLove Good Morning Sun Aromatherapy Spray (4oz, $16 CDN)
‘Good Morning, Sun’ is specifically designed to help motivate and wake you up during those times when pulling the covers back over your head and disappearing for another few hours…or days…or weeks…sounds a bit more appealing. Whenever you need a pick-me-up, simply spray the air around you, as well as your clothes, your towel, your office desk, your car or co-worker.
This is the culprit that leaked all over my box. The lid was not screwed on, which is a quality control issue at the packing stage. I also feel that all liquid products like this should be shipping in plastic bags, because leaks happen more often than people think. The spray itself smells nice, but my bottle is only half full (or half empty, depending on your mood today)!

HumbleLove Good Night Moon Salve ($16 CDN)
Specifically designed to help you calm your mind and relax the tension brought on by everyday life. Made with organic coconut oil, organic sunflower oil, organic olive oil and organic Shea butter, as well as the essential oils of lavender, frankincense, and geranium, this is a great daily bedtime moisturizer to sooth your skin and mind. This is a useful product for bedtime. I rubbed a little on my temples and the sides of my neck and it was just the right amount to calmly drift off to sleep.

TopKnotChicago Hair Ties & Headband Set ($7 CDN)
Made from a soft smooth elastic that is not only great at keeping your hair up but is also gentle on your hair.
If you've read my blog for a while, you know that I hate ribbon hair ties. When it come to taming locks, I prefer invisibooble. They are THE BEST. Ribbon hair ties work great when packing for travel though. I used them to secure my clothing after I've rolled it. Side note - these hair ties were slightly damp from the leak so now they are scented like lavender and other essential oils. I'm not sure if I should wash them or leave it.

KIND Bars Dark Chocolate Almond & Sea Salt ($2.35 CDN)
Smooth caramel, rich dark chocolate, loads of nuts and a sprinkle of Brazilian sea salt will have you savouring every bite.
I am a big fan of KIND bars and this one is delicious.

Meet Matcha Organic Culinary Grade Matcha (80g, $38 CDN)
Made entirely out of stone ground organic green tea leaves. We source our matcha from lush green hills of Uji region from Kyoto, Japan which is certified organic and packed with nutrients, antioxidants upto 10 x times the nutritional content that of green tea. Also, it is considered to have 137 x times more antioxidants than traditional green tea.
Unfortunately this Matcha Green Tea was completely destroyed and the inside product was contaminated. It was us-salvageable and had to be  thrown out, although if I requested, Shruti would have sent a replacement (I declined - as this is a review box, and I am not out any money, I did not feel it was necessary to get replacement items).

My July Namaslay Box included six items, valued around $80 Canadian. The products this month are great, and I would have used all of them in one way or another. Unfortunately the leaky aromatherapy spray caused a lot of damage and one item had to be thrown out. Despite the packaging issues, the curation is good and Namaslay Box has a lot to offer... However, I'm not thrilled that they are now billing in US dollars and shipping to Canada from the US.

  1. Its great to see that you liked what was inside this month's box.

  2. So instead of $44.95 cdn they are now charging $44.95 usd? That's an over 20% increase for Canadians! Canadian companies that charge in US dollars show no appreciation for Canadian customers. I find it very frustrating.

    1. It was $45.95 plus $5.95 shipping Canadian and is now $44.95 US with free shipping. Eliminating the shipping cost offsets the currency change a bit, but not completely. I totally agree with you though. Often companies want to expand into the US to increase their customer base, but it's usually at the expense of their original Canadian customers.
