The April box is curated in accordance with the new season. The novel is historical fiction. It's centred around the life of the woman pictures in a famous modern painting. The items in the box are inspired by the farm in Maine where the heroine lives. They'll also help us welcome spring into our homes.

After digging through the cream coloured crinkle paper, I found four wrapped gifts.

Pacha Mama Body Care Lavender Room & Linen Spray ($11)
This natural room spray is made in Ontario. It contains witch hazel, lavender oil, and distilled water. It smells lovely. I like spraying it on my pillow before bed. It's quite calming.

Styline Designs Herb Plant Markers (3, $10.50)
These custom plant markers are made from alder wood. Styline is based in Vancouver, and has loads of wonderful products on their Etsy shop, perfect for the home or gifts.

Lulu Island Honey 1oz Clover Honey ($3.35)
This raw clover honey is from Lulu Island Honey, in the Vancouver area. Those from the YVR region will know Lulu Island the the island where the city of Richmond and the Vancouver Airport sit. I love discovering new local products and producers! This honey is delicious drizzled over plain yogourt and fresh strawberries.

Time for the book!

Alex wraps the product card in with the book so there are no spoilers.

A Piece of the World by Christina Baker Kline ($23.99)

From the publisher:

From the #1 New York Times bestselling author of the smash bestseller Orphan Train, a stunning and atmospheric novel of friendship, passion, and art, inspired by Andrew Wyeth’s mysterious and iconic painting Christina’s World.
"Later he told me that he’d been afraid to show me the painting. He thought I wouldn’t like the way he portrayed me: dragging myself across the field, fingers clutching dirt, my legs twisted behind. The arid moonscape of wheatgrass and timothy. That dilapidated house in the distance, looming up like a secret that won’t stay hidden."
To Christina Olson, the entire world was her family’s remote farm in the small coastal town of Cushing, Maine. Born in the home her family had lived in for generations, and increasingly incapacitated by illness, Christina seemed destined for a small life. Instead, for more than twenty years, she was host and inspiration for the artist Andrew Wyeth, and became the subject of one of the best known American paintings of the twentieth century.
As she did in her beloved smash bestseller Orphan Train, Christina Baker Kline interweaves fact and fiction in a powerful novel that illuminates a little-known part of America’s history. Bringing into focus the flesh-and-blood woman behind the portrait, she vividly imagines the life of a woman with a complicated relationship to her family and her past, and a special bond with one of our greatest modern artists.
Told in evocative and lucid prose, A Piece of the World is a story about the burdens and blessings of family history, and how artist and muse can come together to forge a new and timeless legacy.

This book was released in February, 2017. It has seven out of seven 5-star reviews at Chapters, which is pretty impressive. The concept behind the book is really creative and unique - a glimpse into the life of the woman behind the painting. I often wonder about the story behind the artwork when I look at paintings. I love how this author put those thoughts to paper.

The April "Sweet Spring" box from Novel Editions included a recently released novel, plus three related gifts. The retail value of this box is around $49 Canadian. The book and gifts suit the Sweet Spring theme very well! The three gift items are sourced from local Canadian makers. The value is a little low this month, but it's still a great box.
