Luxe Box Review - Spring 2017 - Canadian Beauty Subscription Box

Canadian Box Addict pays for this subscription.

What is it? Luxe Box
How Much? $26 per quarter, $50 semi-annually, $96 yearly. Shipping included. Prices in Canadian dollars.
What’s in it? 7-8 Trial-size products every season (4x per year)

Luxe Box is a Canadian subscription service that sends beauty and lifestyle products every season. Subscribers will receive 7-8 full size and trial size products. Boxes ship four times per year, and include complimentary shipping.

In April 2015, Luxe Box was taken over by Topbox. It's never been quite the same since. My last review was Fall 2016, and prior to that, Fall 2015. I have such mixed feelings about this subscription, that I didn't bother doing a review of the Winter 2016 box.

Just like last season, the box appeared out of nowhere. I received an e-mail confirming my address, then a tracking number. There is very little promotion when it comes to Luxe Box. In July 2016, they stopped updating their Instagram feed and directed users to Topbox, but there aren't a lot of Luxe Box related posts. The Spring Luxe Box shipped March 1st and was delivered March 9th. I received my product info e-mail March 2nd.

Typically Luxe Box ships in a pretty gift box, but I opt for the eco-option and just get the drawstring bag.

We received two sponsored items this month, which is great! The Dove Hair Care set was also included in the March Topbox.

Cake Desserted Island Supreme Body Mousse (30ml, $3.60 CDN)
A richly whipped body lotion with extreme hydrators that leave skin lightly scented and highly moisturized.
I've always been a fan of Cake Beauty products. This lotion smells like vanilla. Side note - this also appeared in the March Topbox.

Novex Bamboo Sprout Leave in Conditioner (4oz, $6.65 CDN)
Novex Bamboo Sprout Leave-In Conditioner designed to naturally moisturize the strands, treat and leave the hair nourished and full of life. Its formula counts with the Bamboo Sprout, responsible to provide all the strength and growth that your hair needs, leaving it treated, nourished and with a glossy shine.
Would you be surprised if I told you this product was in the November Topbox? Probably not. Despite the product recycling, I do actually like this. I've been using it after showering and it's doing wonders on my ends. It also works as a detangler.

Eyeko London Eye Do Liquid Eyeliner (0.4ml trial, $14 CDN)
Intense single stroke waterproof carbon black colour . Easy-to-use precision tip creates the perfect line to subtly accentuate the eye or create a dramatic cat eye. Glides on over eye shadow and stays on even on the waterline.
Eyeko mascara regularly appears in Topbox (as recently as March), but this is the first time I've seen this eye liner. I only use liquid liner, so this mini is good for me.

Benefit They're Real Beyond Mascara (3g sample, $10.25 CDN)
Benefit’s #1 mascara lifts, curls and lengthens for lashes beyond belief! Jet Black, glossy & long wearing.
I first received this as a sample from Topbox in July 2014, but no complaints because this is my all-time favourite mascara. I can never have enough.

The Beauty Crop Lighting Crew Highlighting Cream (10ml, $16 CDN)
Lighting Crew will perk up your complexion, accentuate the features you love and leave you with a natural radiance. Packed with Vitamin C and antioxidants derived from Pineapple and Green Tea, our Highlighting Cream will add a healthy, luminous glow.
I'm always curious about highlighting creams, but I've never used one. Subscribers received either this cream or The Beauty Crop Glamazon Stick.

Nova Scotia Fisherman Fundy Clay & Mint Soap ($2)
Shiver me timbers we have Fundy Clay & Mint soap that will stimulate and restore renew your senses. Kaolin Clay, Kelp and Mint help balance oily skin without over drying.
Nova Scotia Fisherman products have been making an appearance in Topbox since mid-2015. Most recently NSF was included in the February Topbox. This soap smells nice and I like that they're promoting a Canadian company.

Doucce Click Click Lipstick in Pink Essence ($31 CDN)
Total impact lipstick that gives off a highly pigmented sheer and creamy finish. The lightweight non-sticky formula glides on effortlessly providing medium to full coverage. Enriched with soothing and moisturizing elements, the smooth texture feels sensually soft and comfortable all day.
This shade (824) is a mauvey-pink colour. It's nice. Not too pink but also not too dark. It's a nice wearable shade. I used to get Doucce products regularly from Glossybox. This is the kind of quality and value Luxe Box used to demonstrate more regularly.

Seche Vite Dry Fast Top Coat (3.6ml, $2.55)
Seche Vite™ dry fast top coat is widely acknowledged as the world's finest top coat. Specially formulated to penetrate through nail lacquer to the base coat forming a single solid coating over the nail plate for a much more durable finish. Guaranteed not to yellow while leaving nails silky, stronger and resistant to chipping and peeling.
I've used this before and it works quite well. I recently started getting shellac manicures so I don't need traditional polish anymore. And guess what... this product was in the January 2016 Topbox!

The Spring 2016 Luxe Box included ten products, valued over $80 CDN (not including the sponsored items). This box costs $26 per season, so the value is decent. It's also nice to receive the bonus sponsored items. My only issue with this box is the product repetition from Topbox. Four items from this box were featured in Topbox over the past few months and one has made an appearance several times over the years. People that are subscribed to both probably won't be impressed! I often get questions from people enquiring which is better - Topbox or Luxebox. My answer is that they are basically the same. The only difference is the frequency of shipment and cost. The products are comparable, and often identical. So, would you rather 4 products every month for $12 or 8 products every three months for $26?

  1. I like what was inside a lot.

  2. I didn't get either of the The Beauty Crop products, nor the Nova Scotia Fisherman soap. Instead I got a Warsh cloth (which I love) and Trind Nail polish.

  3. Haha, it's basically Topbox 🤔
