Before I get to this review, I just need to address the controversy that erupted over this box. When the first spoiler for the Love box was announced back in mid-December, the box was already sold out. Longtime subscribers logged into their accounts and found that they would not be getting the January theme. Many were set to receive past themes that they had either skipped or already received. There seemed to be no rhyme or reason why some subscribers were getting Love and some weren't. Some were longtime subscribers and some were brand new.

To help fix the supply and demand problem, GlobeIn has instituted some changes, which will be implemented over the next couple of months.
The demand for the Artisan Box has been growing. Every month YOU are employing hundreds of artisans all over the world and helping them create a better life for their families. Without you, GlobeIn would not exist and many artisans would not have access to fair wages and the global economy.

In 2016 we started reaching production capacity with many of our existing artisan groups in remote areas around the world. You might have noticed a few hiccups over the last few months: one product was delayed, another one had to be substituted at the last minute.

Moving forward, we have devised a new sourcing strategy for 2017 and beyond. Starting March 2017, we are planning on sourcing multiple Artisan Box themes each month rather than just one. This will enable us to place smaller, more manageable orders with more artisans, and ensure that all products arrive to you on time. This means more products, more options, more partnerships and more impact!

As the demand for the Artisan Box grows, we anticipate new themes to sell out. On our end, we promise that you will always have multiple theme options to choose from every month. If you do not like the themes offered, you always have the option to skip a month. We NEVER want you to receive something that you are not happy with.
January and February will be transitional months. Read more at the end of this post to learn more about how the next few months will play out for subscribers - current and new.

Now... on with the review.

The theme for January is "Love".
This is the love box. Love is a box. Love is a box you are holding, a box you are opening. Love is an opening, a holding, is you. Love is a piece of chocolate broken off, a pile of sand blown into glass. Love is a wine, a quiet toast.

Love is a thoughtfully set table, a word of affirmation whispered softly to the self. Love is a napkin on the lap. Love is a woven bowl ready to be filled. Love is already.

In Kenya, the Caribbean, Mexico, and India, love is global and local at once. Love is an always bazaar, handmade and open to all, touching down wherever you are.
Love Greeting Card ($3)
This card is lovely. It would look wonderful framed!

Palm Leaf Heart Bowl from Mexico ($6)Instead of the usual woven basket we have this woven bowl with a heart motive. It's super cute and I appreciate that we got a variation from the usual.

Soapstone Dish from Kenya ($10)
This dish can be used to hold candies on the table, paper clips on your desk, jewellery on your bedside table, or soap in your bathroom. The possibilities are endless.

Love box recipients will get one of three designs. The elephant is adorable but I'm happy with the black dish.

Soapstone Word Heart from Kenya ($3.50)
This is another variation item. Baskets will include one of the three designs below. I like to put wish rocks like these into my plant pots. They add a nice bit of colour and good vibes.

Here are the soapstone heart variations.

Equal Exchange Organic Dark Chocolate Caramel Crunch with Sea Salt ($4)
We got one of these in the December 2015 Celebrate box and it was sooo good. The chocolate is sourced from Dominican Republic.

Set of Two Hand Blown Wine Glasses from Mexico ($30)
These wine glasses are fantastic. They are quite heavy and thick walled. I was very impressed when I unwrapped them... and it was even more authentic since they were wrapped in newspapers from Mexico!

You can see the thickness of the edges. These glasses are great quality!

The final item in the love box is a set of two Shibori Napkins from India (value $12). Unfortunately these were missing from my box! GlobeIn is good about handling missing items and typically sends out replacements quickly.

The January GlobeIn Artisan Box, themed "Love", includes seven items, valued at $68.50 US. It's a great box this month, and I like that the Love theme was sent in advance of Valentine's Day in February. With the wine glasses and napkins, you could put together a romantic dinner for two, and share the chocolate bar as dessert! Unfortunately this box is currently sold out, but GlobeIn has indicated it may be available again later in February or March.

Earlier in the post, I mentioned that GlobeIn is making some changes and that January and February are transition months. There is limited availability of the newly-curated themes for the next few months. According to GlobeIn, this is what you need to know:
1) Not all current subscribers will be able to choose the newly-curated theme: we are prioritizing Artisan Box members that have previously received all of our themes. (We don’t want anyone to get a repeat box unless you want it!) - I take this to mean they are prioritizing members that have not skipped any months.
2) New subscribers will not receive the newly-curated themes in the next few months. Instead, you will get to choose from a variety of other exciting boxes. - Take a look at my GlobeIn reviews to see some of the past themes that may be available.

***Please login to your subscription settings now to see what themes are available to you.***

3) If the newly-curated theme is not available, don’t worry! You will have a chance to get it in the future: we are creating a waitlist and will let you know as soon as it is in stock.

4) Remember, you can always skip a month if you are not happy with your current theme options!

We definitely welcome feedback to help us make a better experience for you - contact us at Thank you for supporting GlobeIn and joining us on this exciting journey.
