Novel Tea Club Review - October 2016 - Book Subscription Box + PROMO CODE

Canadian Box Addict pays for this subscription. This post contains affiliate links.
What is it? Novel Tea Club
How Much? $35.99/month, plus $5 shipping. Prices in Canadian dollars.
What’s in it? A novel, a delicious beverage, and a few somethings extra to make the night special

Novel Tea Club is a Canadian subscription box that sends everything you need for the perfect cozy night in. Each box includes a good book, quality tea, great artisanal products, and some extras to keep life interesting! When you subscribe, choose between Romance, Young Adult, or Fantasy/Sci-Fi. You can change your genre any time through your account page.

Boxes ship on the 20th of each month. While Novel Tea Club is based in Canada and bills in Canadian dollars, their boxes ship from the US. My box shipped via DHL from Pompano Beach, Florida (near Ft. Lauderdale) and took more than two weeks to arrive. I was initially disappointed to see my box shipping from the US, especially since Novel Tea Club's Cratejoy listing, specifically says the box ships from Canada. I inquired with Novel Tea Club's founder and learned they moved shipping to the US in order to give customers better products and value. We all know how expensive parcel rates are in Canada, so it's completely understandable.

I don't feel that this shipping issue negatively impacts the actual box. As long as it doesn't bother you that the box ships from the US, Novel Tea Club is worth looking into, especially since they bill in Canadian dollars and the shipping cost is so low.

The theme for October's box is "Tainted Love".  My chosen genre is Young Adult.

Product Card

Bright Smoke, Cold Fire by Rosamund Hodge ($21.99 CDN Retail)
When the mysterious fog of the Ruining crept over the world, the living died and the dead rose. Only the walled city of Viyara was left untouched.
The heirs of the city’s most powerful—and warring—families, Mahyanai Romeo and Juliet Catresou, share a love deeper than duty, honor, even life itself. But the magic laid on the Juliet at birth compels her to punish the enemies of her clan—and Romeo has just killed her cousin Tybalt. Which means he must die.
Paris Catresou has always wanted to serve his family by guarding the Juliet. But when his ward tries to escape her fate, magic goes terribly wrong—killing her and leaving Paris bound to Romeo. If he wants to discover the truth of what happened, Paris must delve deep into the city, ally with his worst enemy . . . and perhaps turn against his own clan.
Mahyanai Runajo only wants to protect her city—but she’s the only one who believes it’s in peril. In her desperate hunt for information, she accidentally pulls Juliet from the mouth of death—and finds herself bound to the bitter, angry girl. Runajo quickly discovers Juliet might be the one person who can help her recover the secret to saving Viyara.
Both pairs will find friendship where they least expect it. Both will find that Viyara holds more secrets and dangers than anyone ever expected. And outside the walls, death is waiting. . . .

Sounds like a very intriguing book!

Tiny House Soap Co. Wax Melts in All Spice ($2 CDN)
These smell so good! I'm going to have to go buy myself a wax melt warmer.

Bad Girl Good Tea Chocolate Chai Baby ($13.50 CDN)
Dessert in a cup (without all of the calories)! Drink this baby guilt free to your hearts content. The mild spiciness of chai and the earthy richness of chocolate make this blend a Bad Girl favorite!
I received a packet of this tea last month in a different box. It is SO good. It's a black tea with cinnamon bark, ginger root, and cocoa nibs. Perfect for a chilly fall evening!

Goetze's Caramel Apple Creams
Made with the same chewy caramel as Goetze's Vanilla Caramel Creams, Apple Caramel Creams come with a tart, apple cream center. An autumn classic, Apple Caramel Creams taste like a crisp Granny Smith apple that has been dipped into rich, creamy caramel.
I've never heard of these before but they are very tasty. Another great flavour for a fall box.

Raely's Beautique Selene Bath Bomb ($5.23 CDN)
Grab a bottle of wine and your lover, and dive into sensual realms. Selene will turn your water a shimmering glittery black while releasing notes of French lavender, lily of the valley, oakmoss, and musk all woven in this deeply romantic fragrance capturing the essence of moonlit strolls in lush gardens . Selene will set the mood for the perfect romantic bath.
This bomb smells lovely. The lavender is sure to help one relax while laying back in the tub and reading.

"Fall into Books" Sticker by EvieBookish via Red Bubble (~$3)
The artwork on this sticker is beautiful. Even better, it's introduced me to Red Bubble. It's a website full of "uncommon goods designed by independent artists".

Tainted Love Print by Khelsie Powers
This print is on the front side of the product card.

The October Novel Tea Club box included a hardcover book, a packet of loose leaf tea, and five extra gifts. The items in this box are meant to give you the perfect evening at home. Set the mood with some scented wax melts (and maybe light a candle while you're at it), brew yourself a perfect cup of tea, drop the bath bomb into a steaming tub, and sit back and relax with a brand new novel. Don't forget to snack on something sweet!

Novel Tea Box costs $40.99 CDN per month and the value of this box is over $45 CDN. There's a bit of value there, but more than anything this box is all about the experience. Even better, you can save 10% off your monthly subscription using promo code NOVELTEACLUB, or if you plan to stick around for a while, save 10% off your first 3 renewals with code CRATE10. That brings your first 3 boxes down to $37.40 CDN!

  2. I just purchased this box, but it seems that the pricing was in USD instead of Canadian. It said that my total was $32, but $43 came out of my account.

    1. That is a change since I subscribed in October, 2016. They seem to have switched their billing system so per their FAQ, they now bill in US dollars.
