Luxe Box + Unilever Trends Box Review - Fall 2016 - Canadian Beauty Subscription Box

Canadian Box Addict pays for this subscription.
What is it? Luxe Box
How Much? $26 per quarter, $50 semi-annually, $96 yearly. Shipping included. (CDN $)
What’s in it? 7-8 Trial-size products every season (4x per year)

Luxe Box is a Canadian subscription service that sends beauty and lifestyle products every season. Boxes ship four times per year, and include complimentary shipping.
At Luxe Box, our mission is to help consumers better discover, try and purchase quality beauty and lifestyle products through a unique experience.

This is my first Luxe Box review in a year. My last one was Fall 2015. I have received boxes each season over the past year, but I was so underwhelmed by them that I didn't bother with reviews. It's been a year and a half since Topbox took over Luxe Box, and my views since last fall have not changed (click here for a refresher). Luxe Box seems to be the forgotten cousin in the Top Box empire. Luxe Box even abandoned their Instagram account and directed people to follow Topbox. I also noticed that Luxe Box is now shipping to the US (click here for US site).

Last fall I said the box crept up out of nowhere with minimal promotion, and this fall seemed to be the same. I have no idea if upgrades or add-on items were available this season. An address confirmation email went out, then a shipping notice, then the box was here. Shipping is great and super efficient, which one great thing about the Topbox merger.

Luxe Box normally comes packaged inside a very nice gift box, but subscribers can opt for "eco packaging" and just get the products in a silky drawstring bag. I have so many boxes now, I always opt for the bag alone. The pink box (in the picture at the top) was an unexpected bonus. I will get to that at the end of this post.

Instead of a product card, Luxe Box sends an e-mail listing all the details. The e-mail comes right after the tracking e-mails are sent out. (Click image to enlarge). One thing I noticed is that some of the values are listed in US dollars and some are converted to Canadian. In my review, I kept things easy by using the brand listed prices in US dollars.

Coastal Scents Blush + Bronzer Mini Palette ($13.95)
I didn't open this one because I received the same in my August Boxycharm (see here). It has two blushes and three bronzers. All the colours are highly pigmented and can be blended.

Bellapierre Cosmetics Cheek & Lip Stain in Coral ($20)
This stain is oil-free and blends easily.

Makeup For Ever Ultra HD Invisible Cover Foundation Sample (5ml, $6.80 value)
I received shade 115 (ivory), which makes me think they followed my beauty profile.

gorge I'll make you look amazing daily spray (1oz, $7.50 value)
I received this in a previous box and it's great. It's a leave in conditioner spray that leaves my hair silky, smooth, and full of body.

Eyeko London Fat Eye Stick in Gilt ($5)
This product is not available online at Eyeko or Sephora, despite what the product card says. Any site that once carried them says they are no longer available, which makes me think these Fat Eye Sticks are now discontinued. A set of 3 of this size was once available form Birchbox for $15 (and this shade was apparently exclusive to Birchbox US).

Ciaté London Paint Pot in Ditch the Heels ($15)
This colour was released in Spring 2010 as part of Ciate's Festival Fever Collection. While this teal green colour remains in the Ciate library, I'm surprised we are getting a shade that was released six years ago. Surely there is something more current they could have included.

Jing Ai Velevet Shine Lip Jewel in Champagne ($22)
This lip crayon is cruelty free and infused with macadamia seed oil, shea butter, and jojoba seed oil. It's quite pigmented and has some staying power.

The Fall 2016 Luxe Box included seven products, valued at $90.25 US, which today is over $117 Canadian. This box costs $26 Canadian per quarter, so it's more than quadruple the value. Five of the products are full size and two are deluxe samples. It's nice to see some different items than what has been appearing in Topbox and past Luxe Boxes. The products are hit and miss for me. There are a few things I will find use for, and a few I will pass on to others. Overall it's not a terrible season, but it's not the best.

What really made this season a hit though, was the unexpected box from consumer goods company, Unilever. This is a sponsored item, offered for free by the manufacturer. I'm assuming all subscribers received it (I have two accounts and received two of them).

It is full of samples! This is called the "Trends Box" and includes a sampling of products from Unilever's personal care brands.

They even included a product card! There are eight samples total.

This Unilever Trends Box is available to purchase for $10 from Topbox Collective. There are two versions available. Click here to check them out. Prices are in Canadian dollars and shipping is free! This was a great bonus to receive with the fall Luxe Box! I can't say for certain if we will extra bonuses like this again in the future, but it would be pretty cool if this became a regular thing (maybe once or twice a year?).
