**nextmeat is no longer in business.**

What is it? nextmeat
How Much? $47.95 per month, including shipping. No tax. Save on 3-month pre-paid term. Prices in Canadian dollars.
What's in it? 3-5 products per month, including cured meats and items to accompany the meat.

nextmeat is a new Canadian subscription box, based near Vancouver, BC. Each month, nextmeat ships out a box of different cured meats and accompaniments. Products are sourced from importers and local Canadian manufacturers. Boxes ship the first week of the month, and shipping is free!
Every single month we organize an election. Tons of meats from different meat artisans around the world are candidates. After a long delicious process of sampling, voting, we only elect the best to feature in our monthly boxes.

Cured meats have a shelf life of 1-2 months, so there is no issue with shipping. nextmeat does recommend storing your meats in the refrigerator though, just to preserve freshness. The product card lists the items included in very generic terms (no company/manufacturer details). To find info on each product I had to consult my good friend Google. The card had a little error on it, with the numbering out of sequence. No number 4!

Chardonnay Wine Salami
There was no label on this one, so I have no idea about the manufacturer or ingredients. It actually looks like a label was picked off as there is white sticker residue left on the package. I would prefer if the products had labels with source information and ingredients.

Italissima Beef Salami
An Italian tradition of many variations. Salami is commonly flavored with garlic, peppercorns, paprika, fennel and wine. Salami variations include Finocchiona, Pepperoni, Fegatelli, Felino, Genoese, and Milanese. Each is uniquely flavorful.
Italissima is a Canadian company!

Spagnia Salchichon Dry Cured Pork
Spagnia Salchichon is an Authentic Spanish sausage which is native to a number of regions of Spain. Salchichon is made with lean pork and a mixture of traditional Spanish spices, and is cured while hanging which is unique to Salchichon. The full and exotic flavour of salchichon derives from its curing process as well as the spices and lean meat used.

Calvi Italian Extra Virgin Olive Oil (18ml sample)
It is recommended for all cooking purposes both in family and in professional use and is excellent for dressing vegetable soups, vegetables and legumes.

My July nextmeat box contained three cured meats and a mini olive oil. This box costs $48 CDN, including shipping. I couldn't do a valuation, but these meat products work out to $16 a piece, which is on the higher end. It would be nice to see more product information included on the product card, and all the products should have labels listing manufacturer or source, and ingredients. This is only their second month, but I see a lot of potential with this new Canadian box.

If you are interested in giving nextmeat a try, use promo code MEATBOX20 to save 20% off your first box. This saves you just under $10, which makes the first box a great deal.
