Magnolia Post Co. Style Box Review - July 2016 - Canadian Clothing Box + PROMO CODE

This box was provided complimentary for review.

**This company is no longer in business.**
What is it? Magnolia Post Co.
How Much? Varies - Approx $85 per collection plus tax and $9.95 shipping. Prices in Canadian dollars.
What’s in it? Outfit of your choice, plus bonus items from featured brands

Magnolia Post Co. is a Canadian fashion service, based in Kelowna, BC. Each month, Magnolia Post releases a new outfit (or two) from unique brands. The goal of Magnolia Post is to offer budget friendly and versatile pieces so you can keep your style up to date and your closet full of options. I previously reviewed the curated outfit boxes in May and June

Magnolia Post is a fashion discovery service delivering new styles every month. It’s the perfect way to build your wardrobe and introduce yourself to styles you might not have discovered on your own. We want to deliver basic pieces that are on trend and versatile. We want to keep you under budget and build your wardrobe at the same time.

In addition to curated outfits, Magnolia Post Co. now offers a few personalized surprise boxes:
  • The Style Box retails for $109.95 and includes 3-4 clothing items and accessories, customized based on your style preferences & 1-3 bonus items from the monthly featured brands.
  • The Style Sampler retails for $49.95 and includes 1 clothing item based on your style preferences, one accessory & 1-3 bonus items from the monthly featured brands.
  • The Accessory Box retails for $29.95 and includes 1 accessory from our monthly collection & 1-3 bonus items from the monthly featured brands.

Magnolia Post tries to customize the Style Boxes, so they have purchasers fill out a brief survey (see a sample here). If you have a "Style Board" on Pinterest, you can provide a link to that as well.

These are not subscriptions. You pay per collection or box and you can buy whichever one you want, whenever you want, while supplies last. Magnolia Post does not accept returns, but they do run a "Swap & Shop" Facebook page for other members to sell and trade pieces that don't work.

This is a review for the Magnolia Style Box.

When I filled out my style survey, I specified that I like loose fitting, casual clothing, in neutral or dark colours. I said I wear cardigans the most and skirts the least.

Once the bonus items were removed, this was the first look at the clothing. Looks promising! We will get back to it in a moment...

K'pure Natural Body Care Get Closer All Natural Deodorant (2oz, $14)
Made with organic shea butter, organic cocoa butter and almond oil to moisturize, activated charcoal to absorb wetness, and aluminum-free baking soda and a blend of essential oils to deodorize. This formulation has been five years in the making, and has stood the test of marathon training, bootcamp sessions and everyday parenting life.
K'pure products are handcrafted in the Fraser Valley area of BC.

D Latte Card Creations Embossed Cherry Blossom Note Card ($2.50)
These beautiful cards are made with ivory cardstock. I cut light pink cardstock and embossed each piece with a cherry blossom design and then layered onto the card.
This company is based in Vancouver and the gal makes some really adorable gift cards and invitations.

Lip butter for tea lovers. Made with natural ingredients to leave your lips soft and smooth.
This company is based in Vancouver, BC and they have some really creative product scents. Vanilla Beet Root sounds interesting. I was thrilled to get Earl Grey after seeing a sneak peek on Instagram

Drops of Gratitude is a company that thrives on making you and the people in your life feel special, valued and simply appreciated. We specialize is essential oil - infused jewelry. Lava stones are great for absorbing essential oils and are incorporated into each piece.
Drops of Gratitude is based in Calgary. The idea is that you put a couple drops of essential oil on the lava stones and enjoy the benefits of essential oils while you wear the bracelet. Along with the moss agate bracelet, we received a tiny sample vial of "Happy Blend", which is a combination of spearmint, citrus, and vanilla. It's supposed to uplift, rejuvenate, and refresh. The scene lasts 1-3 days, and then you can reapply or try a new blend.

Now for the clothing...

Active USA Crochet Trim Tank
This light and flowy tank is made of rayon (the crochet trim is cotton). It gapes a bit around the chest and arm holes but that can be fixed with a cardigan or jacket over top.

Buttercream Clothing Chiffon Navy Dot Kimono ($68)
Our new pretty kimono prints will make you swoon! Feel so feminine and put together with this simple piece. We wear ours with jeans or leggings, a tank top and have the best spring/summer outfit in a snap! Are you going away or needing something for a summer wedding? This is the thing for you! It packs so small and will complete any outfit or act as a sweet swimsuit cover up.

This piece is a little outside my comfort zone but it's actually pretty cool. It's a lightweight option for breezy summer days, and I like their idea to use it as a swimwear cover up. Buttercream Clothing is a Canadian company and all their products are made in Canada. They have some super adorable infinity scarves!

Active USA Crochet Sleeve Cocoon Cardigan
This will be a  good piece to transition from summer to fall and then from spring to summer. It's not bulky enough to be good for fall and winter, but it's cozy, functional, and feminine.

Cherish Clothing Cage Dress ($34 US)
I saw this dress in the Magnolia Post Look Book and I didn't think I would like it, but I actually do. It's jersey (rayon/spandex) and super soft and comfortable. The fit is loose and flowy, and it drapes really well, hiding flaws and lumps. The front is round neck and the back has a v-shape with "cage" strapping detail. I'm not sure I would wear this style as a stand alone dress, but it might make a good beach cover up, or at least a lounger piece for around  home. The only complaint is that because it's rayon, the tag recommends dry clean only as it will likely shrink in the wash.

Here is a peek at the back strapping detail.

I tried styling some of the items... basic tanks with the cardigan and kimono, topped with long, delicate necklaces. I would probably wear dark skinny jeans on the bottom (that's pretty much all I wear on the bottom!).

My July Magnolia Style Box from Magnolia Post Co included four clothing items, an accessory, and three bonus gifts. I wasn't able to find prices for everything, but for the things I was able to find, the value is over $163 CDN. Factor in the Active USA tank and sweater, and this box easily has a value over $200. The Style Box costs $109.95 CDN, plus $9.95 shipping. I wasn't sure what to expect with the Style Box, and was a little worried because I am very picky about style and fit. My apprehension was unwarranted because I was pleasantly surprised. They followed my profile perfectly, giving me loose fitting, casual clothing in neutral colours. I also received two cardigan-style items, after specifying that I wear cardigans the most. I thought I would like the dress the least, but I actually like it the most! I also love that Magnolia Post includes so many Canadian brands. All the bonus gifts are from small Canadian businesses, and one of the clothing items in from a Canadian company.

Unfortunately many sizes of the various boxes are already sold out, but the next collection goes on sale August 10th. The boxes always sell out quickly, especially size L, so act fast if you want to get a box. You can sign up for the Magnolia Post e-mail list or monitor their Instagram to stay updated. When you are ready to order, head over to Magnolia Post Co. and use promo code cdnboxaddict at checkout to save $10 off your first order!
