Food Trip To... is a new Canadian subscription box, based in Quebec. Every two months, the Food Trip To… team will introduce you to a surprise destination thanks to a box filled with tantalizing treats, delivered right to your home or office. Their motto is Eat. Travel. Share, which should really be everyone's motto! It's a great manta to live by. Boxes can be purchased a la carte (single purchase) or as a recurring subscription (Around the World plan). With the Around the World plan, you will receive a new country in a box every 2 months. There is no obligation. You can cancel any time through your account page. Food Trip To... also donates 10% of proceeds from the sale of each box to Oxfam Quebec!

Up until recently, Food Trip To... was in a testing phase. The goal was to sell 600 boxes by October 2015 to see if the business model was viable. They reached the 600 box goal and are continuing on. It's not clear yet how the business will change and grow going forward, but so far, things look promising!

Last week learned that Eat.Feed.Love has moved their operation to the US and is no longer shipping to Canada (or if they are it is very, very expensive). If you were an EFL subscriber and are looking for a new quality food box to fill the void, be sure to check out Food Trip To...

This is a review of the Morocco box, which is still available for one-time purchase (click here). The founder of Food Trip To... traveled to Morocco. If you read French, you can read about his experience here.
Set off for the Maghreb, on a trip that’ll take you through a brilliantly coloured world filled with spice and orange blossom scents! Shake off winter’s cold grasp and let us introduce you to the lifestyle of a warm, festive people who live between deserts and mountains. From the superb coastal village of Essaouira to the colourful souks of Marrakech and the magnificent landscapes of the Ouarzazate region, Morocco awaits!
This subscription also helps charity. 10% of each purchase is donated to Oxfam Quebec!

On the menu are several colourful and flavourful dishes. The menu includes a beverage, an appetizer, a main dish, and a dessert.

We also received a grocery list, as well as cultural information about Morocco, a few words and phrases in Arabic, Moroccan trivia, suggestions for Moroccan movies worth watching, and a music playlist.

  • Beverage: Zahret et Loz (Almond Blossom) - A creamy, lightly scented drink.
  • Appetizer: Chladet Maticha bel Hamed el Markked (Cherry Tomato & Lemon Confit Salad) - A refreshing salad.
  • Main Dish: Tajine Djaj Belzitoun Welseffa Bellouz (Chicken Tagine with olives & almond couscous) - A super comforting simmered dish.
  • Dessert: Kaab Ghzal Watay Belneanaa (Gazelle Horns & Mint Tea) - A classic dessert that tastes faintly of orange blossom.

This box includes 6 products and 4 recipes to to create a traditional Moroccan meal, plus a small surprise from Morocco!

Tuyya Organic EVOO in Thyme & Bay Leaf ($12.99)

Ras El Hanout Spice Mix
This is the definitive spice blend of Morocco. Read more about it here.

Moroccan Green Tea
Mint Tea is a staple in the Morocco diet, but isn't mint tea as we know it. Instead they brew green tea, then mix in sugar and fresh mint sprigs before serving.

Aicha Preserved Lemons
Chef Paula Wolfert describes preserved lemons as an "indispensable ingredient" in Moroccan cooking. They are used in everything from lamb tagine, to chicken dishes, to salads.

Candied Peanuts
In Morocco, candied peanuts are sold for a snack by street vendors.

Orange Blossom Water
This is used in many Moroccan dishes, from beverages to sweets. Click here to see some recipes.

Gift: Moroccan Tea Glasses
These will be great to give the dinner party a true Moroccan feel. I can add them to the glasses i picked up in Turkey, which are not as ornate and colourful.

Bonus: Gaia Concept Argan Oil Soap

I really enjoyed this Food Trip To Morocco. I'm not very familiar with the food and culture from this region, so I really enjoyed going through this box and learning more. Morocco is on the top of my travel bucket list, and this box makes me want to head there even more! I can't wait to try these recipes. It's impossible to put a value on this box since all the products are imported, but I can easily say that this box is worth every penny of the subscription cost, and then some! From the presentation, to the products, to the recipes, to the music playlist, and all the extras... Food Trip To... has you covered.

If you are interested in trying Food Trip To..., you can save 25% off your first box with an Around the World plan (recurring subscription). Use promo code CDNBOX25 at checkout.

  2. I am not really into Moroccan foods/flavors so decided to skip this month, but I really enjoyed their Finland box last month. I only found out about this in December, otherwise I would have also loved to get their Italy and Brazil boxes.

    Quality and fun!
