For May, Little Life Box partnered with Fairtrade Canada to provide an exclusive box full of fair trade products.
Fair Trade is a different way of doing business. It's about making principles of fairness and decency mean something in the marketplace.

First look - a bit scattered

Camino Cocoa Power (224g, $8.99)
Dutch-processed cocoa powder is ideal for all your favourite recipes.  Dutch-processed cocoa powder is treated with an alkali (1–3% potassium carbonate) to neutralize the acidity and bitterness, raising the pH levels to create a smooth flavour and deep, rich colour.
I received this a long time ago from Little Life Box, but I ran out, so this is perfect. In the "First Look" picture, it didn't come with the plastic lid affixed, but I found it at the bottom of the box.

Peter Piper Pepper (75g, ~$5)
Fairtrade and Organic Malabar pepper from India. They have it packed onsite in India, ensuring freshness.
Fairly traded pepper? I didn't know such a thing existed. My pepper mill is running low, so while it's kind of odd to get a pack of Peter Piper Pepper (say that 3 times fast), I will be using it!

Ethical Bean Coffee Lush Medium-Dark Roast (69g, $3.64)
Any richer, and you’d ask it for a loan. A heavy cup with Burgundian fullness, alive with fruit, smoke, and earth notes. Ethical Bean Coffee only roasts 100% fairtrade certified organic Arabica coffee.

Ethical Bean has been around for quite a while but I've never tried it. This is a great little sample.

Arayuma Garam Masala Curry Powder (30g, $4.35)
Arayuma is proud to offer a full range of Fairtrade certified, organic and gluten free spices! A classic blendof coriander, turmeric, cumin, true cinnamon, ginger, cardamo and nutmeg. Perfect for curries, soups, marinades, vinaigrettes and more!

Arayuma Turmeric Slices (10g, $3.15)
This recycled banana leaf paper box was handcrafted by a group of women in Sri Lanka. The income generated from these boxes contributes significantly to the financial independence of the women who make them.

These spices are organic and fair trade.  The boxes are made out of recycled banana leaf too! I'm most interested in the Turmeric Slices. I have powdered Turmeric but I didn't realize it was available as dehydrated slices as well. Now I want to make a chicken curry soup!

Camino Almond Dark Chocolate Bar (100g, $5.48)
Rich and sophisticated dark chocolate that melts in your mouth with exquisite smoothness.
I love receiving these high-quality chocolate bars. I've samples many flavours now through LLB and they are all wonderful.

Tega Organic Teas - Assorted Flavours (4 bags, $1.17)
At Tega Organic Tea, we have two simple goals: create the most delicious organic tea blends, and promote a healthy lifestyle through smart beverage choices. To get there, we’ve spent over 10 years crafting and experimenting with new tea blend combinations, iteration upon iteration to make sure we provide the best taste and quality.
I put the best one right on top - Chocolate Mint Rooibos. I'm going to make a "Chocolate Mint Fog" using almond milk. Yum!

Four O'Clock Teas (2 bags,$0.62)
Embrace the myriad of lightly spiced flavours that will caress your soul and develop your senses as you enjoy our velvety interpretation of the time-honoured classic.
The Chocolate Spice tea sounds delicious too. Indulgent teas are nice to have as a dessert. They satisfy the craving without the calories!

Alter Eco Mini Dark Velvet Organic Chocolate (20g, $1)
Melty smooth, with a subtle flowery bouquet and honey finish.
This bar was velvety, melty and smooth but oh so small. I want more!

Glee Gum in Tangerine and Cinnamon (2 sample packs, $0.02)
Glee Gum is natural chewing gum made with sustainably harvested rainforest chicle. Glee Gum is the #1 healthy alternative to synthetic chewing gum and bubble gum! No artificial colors, flavors, preservatives, or sweeteners (no aspartame).
I've tried Glee Gum before and all the flavours taste great, but the flavour doesn't last long. Cinnamon was my favourite. It didn't taste artificial like other brands do.

Delapointe 100% Shea Butter (5g sample, $2.99)
Try Delapointe’s high quality Body & Face Authentic Balm, made from 100% pure shea butter from Burkina Faso. The Authentic Balm has a rich, nourishing, and silky texture. Use it every day as an all-natural product suitable for normal-to-dry skin. It moisturizes, relieves, and protects.
This is a really rich cream that will be great for my super-dry elbows!

The May Little Life Box, featuring Fair Trade certified products, included 16 individual items, with an estimated retail value just over $36. I love that they curated a box of fair trade items, but it goes to show that we still have a long way to go. There aren't a lot of fair trade options out there! When you break it down, this box really only contains chocolate, tea, coffee, spices, and shea butter. While I like everything I received, this isn't my favourite Little Life Box today, mostly because I prefer to receive more of a mix of items. I do appreciate that LLB did the best they could to curate a box of great products with limited Fair Trade options.
