Tea Sparrow Review - April 2015 - Canadian Tea Subscription Box

This box was provided complimentary for review.

What is it? Tea Sparrow
How Much? $20 per month, shipping included
What’s in it?  4 premium loose leaf teas to make 35-40 cups of tea

Tea Sparrow is a Canadian tea subscription service, based in Vancouver. Tea Sparrow curates their boxes by hosting bi-weekly tea parties where local Vancouver members taste and score teas from around the world. Each month, members receive the 4 highest rated loose-leaf teas: one each of black, green/oolong, rooibos and herbal. All of their teas are free of artificial ingredients.

Tea Sparrow ships to Canada and the US and all shipping and taxes are included in the $20/month subscription fee. The box is flat and fits in a condo size mail box. Members can pause or cancel their subscription at any time. Gift subscriptions are available as well, in 1, 3, and 6 month increments. Tea Sparrow would make a great Mother's Day gift!

First look - This month is all about fruit teas!
Fruit tea haters, listen up. This month’s line-up is a sort of challenge to the blanket refusal to enjoy any tea mixed with fruit. Although we ourselves tend to be more on the purist side of the tea palette, three out of this month’s four teas are what could be called ‘fruity,’ and we ourselves are shocked at how much we love them.

The Tea Spot Clouds & Mist Organic
Clouds and Mist organic green tea, also known as ‘yunwu’, has a compelling aroma of smoky, citrus and vegetal. Its earthy taste, reminiscent of sweet, roasted artichokes, is well-rounded, with a slight note of toasted pecans.
I'm not a green tea aficionado, but this is tasty, as green teas go.

Sonnentor Organic Cheery Fruit Tea
Honey brings out the flavours of this original blend. Lovely natural sweetness with a hint of orange.

The Tea Spot Blood Orange Smoothie
This creamy blend of naturally caffeine–free South African red rooibos, orange, and vanilla is herbal bliss!
This was fantastic and would be super delicious as an iced tea. I would buy this one again.

Thay Tea Chocolate Blueberry Organic
This blueberry chocolate tea combines the maltiness of Assam black tea, the sweet aroma of blueberries, and a creamy chocolate finish. Add a touch of honey and it makes a wonderful dessert!
I didn't taste the chocolate too much, but the blueberry was very nice. I had mine without honey, but next time I will try it with.

The April Tea Sparrow contained four pouches of loose leaf tea. Each pouch weighs about 20-25 grams. There is more than enough to last the month. It's a great way to sample new flavours and varieties that you wouldn't normally think to try. I'm not a big fan of fruit teas, so I never would have picked up Blood Orange Smoothie or Chocolate Blueberry at the store, but after sampling them with Tea Sparrow, I'm a fan!
