Fortune Cookie Soap Box Review - Summer 2015 - Bath & Body Subscription Box

This box was provided complimentary for review.
What is it? Fortune Cookie Soap Box
How much? $19.99 per quarter, plus $8 shipping to Canada (US$)
What's in it? 8 mini size bath & body products from an upcoming collection. Ships 4 times per year.

Fortune Cookie Soap is a company that produces handcrafted bath and body products. FCS has a major product launch four times per year, so each season FCS puts together a limited edition box containing 8 mini-size products from the upcoming collection. The Soap Box ships approximately two weeks prior to the launch, giving subscribers an opportunity to try out the new fragrances and formulas, before committing to full size versions. The box also includes a $10 gift code, which can be used on the FCS website to purchase your favourite items.

Fortune Cookie Soap Box is a box I’ve read lots about, but never sampled myself. I was thrilled when FCS reached out and offered to send me an advanced peek of the Summer 2015 box.
The coolest thing about the Fortune Cookie Soap and The Soap Box, is that the collections are all based around fun themes. The collection for Summer 2015 is called “Straight on till Morning” and is themed around Peter Pan. Previous themes have featured Alice in Wonderland, The Grinch, Nightmare Before Christmas, and more! They also recently had a “May the Fourth” Star Wars mini collection, and a few Harry Potter themed collections. The full Peter Pan collection will be released May 22, and all the products will be available for purchase on the FCS website. This Summer 2015 box is no longer available for purchase, but if the box interests you, make sure you sign up to get on the list for the Fall 2015 box. They sell out quickly!

The product card includes little write ups of each item, but it's more whimsical than practical. The write ups describe the scent profile of each product, but that's about it.

The samples are quite small, but there is more than enough of each item for you to sample. With the mini sizes, you can get a feel for the scent, texture, formula, and efficacy of each product.

Lost Boys Whipped Cream
Golden apricot muddled with fresh white peaches.
The scent is quite subtle and I like that this light and airy.

The Boy Who Never Grew Up Salt Scrub
Tropical margarita – served with a salted rim.
This really does smell like a lime margarita!

Wendy Bird Veggie Protein Deodorant
Bright, green apple with a balmy, tropical twist.
This is a bright and fresh smelling deodorant, just as I like mine to be. I'm a little concerned about the effectiveness of a natural product like this, but I'm going to give it a go!

Mermaid Lagoon Two Phase Perfume Oil
To use: Shake it more than twice, it’s fun to play with!
I couldn't get my sprayer to work, because once shaken up, it's quite thick. What little bit did come out smelled odd. I can't even describe the scent.

Kiss Lip Balm
Exotic watermelon, juicy pineapple and coconut water, bursting with fresh citrus juice.
This sample is so adorably tiny! I wish I had put a quarter in the picture for reference, because it would be about the same size. The balm itself is quite nice. I don't smell all the citrus described, but I like the feel of it.

Tink OCD Hand Sanitizer
Fresh cherries in cream, sprinkled with roasted coconut and a fairy dusting of powdered sugar.
I got a very faint cherry smell over the alcohol scent. It's a good hand sanitizer actually. I like it quite a bit.

The Captain Steam Me Up Scotty!
Dewy magnolias and wild berries drenched with fresh cream.
Bath bombs are always welcome in my tub!

Second Star to the Right Fortune Cookie Soap
Crushed berries and mint leaves with a splash of sparkling pomelo, served over iced sugarcane.
This is the famed "Fortune Cookie Soap" that started the whole company. Each box includes one. It even contains a fortune...

... and here is mine!

I really enjoyed unboxing The Soap Box from Fortune Cookie Soap. It’s a fun collection of adorable mini size products. Some are quite small, but there is more than enough of each to get a feel for the product. The purpose of The Soap Box is to sample, sniff, and feel to see if you want to purchase the full size version, so I think that goal is met with this box. If handmade bath and body products interest you, it’s a great way to sample different FCS products. Because of the fun themes, I think this would be a great box for a “tween” or teen too. I think my older niece would have loved this one. The value is fair as well. I couldn’t put a specific value on the items in the box, but between the Fortune Cookie Soap, Steam Me Up Scotty, and Hand Sanitizer, the value is already at about $10. Add in the $10 off coupon, assuming you use it, and you are getting your $20 worth. One caveat would be if you have allergies or sensitive skin. While the website lists ingredients for each product, most of the sample sizes did not include an ingredients list and some of the online descriptions are vague, for example, including "Fragrances" and "Color" but not specifying which ones.

The Fall 2015 edition of the Fortune Cookie Soap Box ships in August. If you are interested, be sure to sign up soon! If any of these Peter Pan themed products interest you, check out the Fortune Cookie Soap website after May 22nd!
