How Much? $25/mo for Basic Box or $35/mo for Premium Box, plus $10 shipping to Canada (US$)
What’s in it? 5-6 art supplies and a unique piece of art to help inspire

Sketchbox is a new subscription service that sends high quality art supplies to your door each month. Sketchbox's goal is to "empower more people to make art by providing them with the tools they need". Products may include prismacolor markers, uni paint markers, krink paint markers, alphacolor pastels, Caran d'Ache Luminance Colored Pencils, Charcoals, Graphite Sticks, Gum Erasers, and other mediums. Sketchbox does not include canvas or paper. There are two subscription options: Basic Box or Premium Box. Each box includes 5-6 supplies and a piece of art  to inspire you, but the Premium Box has higher quality, more expensive supplies. This review is for the Basic Box.
I had to show a picture of the top of the box. The intricate pen drawing is amazing. This box is full of inspiration, from inside out.

First look

The box included a letter which introduces the featured artist and describes the products and their intended purpose.
Inside April's basic box you'll find Tombow Watercolor Markers, Sakura Micron Markers, and a bamboo brush. Tombow Watercolor Markers have a double-ended design that includes both a fine point tip and a flexible brush tip enabling techniques from subtle to precise. They work with all watercolor mediums as well. The ink is easy to manipulate with the included bamboo brush. We included the micron fine tip markers so you can outline special parts of your designs or add some really precise line work.
Unique art piece for the month
Our featured artist this month is Morgan Ashley from San Francisco. She used the materials in this month's box to create an amazing piece just for SketchBox. We're so thankful for the talent that she shared with us. We hope her piece can inspire you to have as much fun as possible with your box.
I'm impressed that someone was able to create that drawing using a few markers and a pen. Very talented!

Tombow Dual Brush Pen (3 x $3.19)
Flexible brush tip and fine tip in one marker. Brush tip works like a paintbrush to create fine, medium or bold strokes; fine tip gives consistent lines. Dual Brush Pens are ideal for artists and crafters. The water-based ink is blendable and the resilient nylon brush retains it's point stroke after stroke.  96 colors available including a colorless blender for shading.

From the looks of other reviews and IG photos, it looks like everyone received a mix of colours. I received (from bottom to top) Burnt Sienna (#947), Process Blue (#452), and Sea Green (#346).

Sakura Pigma Micron Pens #1 (0.25mm) and #3 (0.35mm) in Black (2 x $2.50)
Practicality and performance in one little pen! Pigma Microns are a favorite for making detailed drawings and craft work. Its needle tip works well for artists, writers, and illustrators alike. Best of all, the patented, smooth flowing PIGMA ink is reliable, permanent and of top notch acid free archival quality.

These are very high rated pens, for drawing and writing.

Yasutomo CC1 Calligraphy Brush ($3.89)
This Calligraphy Brush is made with coarse, stiff horse hair which gives a crisp touch. It comes with a loop for hanging.

This brush was included to create a watercolor effect with the Tombox markers, but it can also be used as a calligraphy pen.

The April Sketchbox included six art supplies, valued at about $18.50 US. There is value in the unique art piece and box curation, but I would prefer to see a little more product value so it feels like customers are really getting their money's worth. To get the most value out of Sketchbox, look into the longer term subscriptions. A 3 or 6 month term brings the box cost down to $23.33 plus shipping, and a 12 month term brings it down to $20 plus shipping. If you are an artist looking to find new inspiration or challenge yourself each month, this might be a good box for you. I'm not much of an artist so I haven't tried out these supplies. I will be passing them on to a tattoo artist friend of mine. She's always sketching and doodling new design ideas. Once she creates something with these pens, I will post it on Instagram.

If you are interested in trying Sketchbox, you can save 10% off your first month by using promo code PINNER or DONTGO at checkout.
