Lip Monthly Review - February 2015 - Beauty Subscription Box

This post contains referral links.
What is it? Lip Monthly
How Much? $10 per month, plus approximately $3 shipping & tax.
What’s in it? 4 - 5 lip products such as lip Glosses, lip Sticks, lip Balms, lip Stains and much more.

Every month, Lip Monthly helps you discover the best lip products on the market by sending you a box filled with lip products. My first bag was really underwhelming, but the service has steadily improved. This month is the best month yet. Even the shipping has improved. My bag shipped February 13th and arrived February 20th.

Let's talk about the bag. Every Lip Monthly bag I've received smells so awful. Every single one has been tossed into my donation pile. When I opened the mailer up this month, my boyfriend was sitting nearby and said the bag smelled like petroleum. The bag is a vinyl type material, which is probably why it smells so bad. To be quite honest, I would be happy if Lip Monthly came in a plain old box rather that these bags. It feels like a waste to toss them every month, but they are truly unusable.

Be a Bombshell Lip Gloss in Hooked ($14)
A lip gloss formula that offers long lasting color and high shine.
This is described as a dark mauve with light shimmer. I've tried many Be a Bombshell products before and I've been happy with them so far.

So Susan Lip Dome in Black Currant ($10)
A luscious, long-wearing hybrid between a rich stain and a hydrating balm, our Lip Dome strikes the perfect balance between non-drying, pigmented colour and cushiony-soft, full lips.
The label says this is a "plumping lip tint". I've received So Susan products from other subscriptions but never tried one of their lip products. Also of note, So Susan has its own subscription called Lip Love. It's brand new and I just subscribed.

Jelly Pong Pong Supermodel Stain ($25 sale $16)
An air-whipped multitasking creamy pomade that blends seamlessly onto your lips & cheeks for 12 hours of long-lasting wear. Powered by a vegetable-derived Ceramide Complex to help keep skin moisturized & enhance skin elasticity, and Wild Rose Wax which helps heal chapped & dry lips.
I just learned that Jelly Pong Pong is owned by So Susan. I've received a few Jelly Pong Pong products in the past, but this one is new to me.

Cargo Cosmetics Eye Shadow Single in Flint (3.5g, $16)
Cargo Eye Shadow singles are packaged in our signature tin. This soft and velvety formula has a smooth feel and delivers a long-lasting, even application. Rich pigments adhere to skin to give long wearing, saturated color. Colors adhere to the skin and blend effortlessly and are buildable for added intensity. May also be used wet or dry as an eye liner.
I don't wear a lot of eye shadow and this colour isn't neutral enough for every day, so I will be passing it on to someone else.

The February Lip Monthly included four full size cosmetics, with a retail value of $65 US (or $56 with sale pricing). It's a great value, and I'm very impressed with the products this month. All are full size, currently available products and colours, from well known brands. Only three of the four are lip products, but it's nice to get something different once in a while (except for that horrible fragrance sample last month). This is easily the best Lip Monthly bag I have ever seen, not just judging from the ones I have received, but from the entire life of the service. I hope we see more like this from Lip Monthly.

  1. Too bad everything smelled bad, other than that, agree, this looks to be a pretty good bag.

  2. I just discovered your blog (so happy about that) and beauty boxes are my favourite. Reading over some of your past reviews, the thing I like best is your honesty. If you like something you tell why and the same goes if you don't like something, you say why you don't like it. This is exactly what I'm looking for. I have wasted a lot of money on duds and now I look for positive reviews. Isn't there a jewelry box out there for us Canadians? I remember seeing one before but can't remember if it was US only.

    1. There are a few listed under my Box List page. None are Canadian based though but there are a handful of US ones that ship here.

  3. Do NOT subscribe to LipMonthly!! These people are scammers. Read my blog post on them to find out more information -
