Lip Monthly Review - December 2014 - Beauty Subscription Bag + PROMO CODES
What is it? Lip Monthly
How Much? $10 per month, plus approximately $3 shipping & tax. Save on 4 month of 12 month subscriptions.
What’s in it? 4 - 5 lip products such as lip Glosses, lip Sticks, lip Balms, lip Stains and much more.
Every month, Lip Monthly helps you discover the best lip products on the market by sending you a box filled with lip products.
We partner with awesome brands (that change every month and we keep a surprise until the boxes ship) to help you discover the best for your lips! This service is fairly new, and with new companies growing pains are to be expected. However with this one, there seems to be a lot of issues. I've been following along closely on social media since I subscribed in mid-November. The main complaints seem to be regarding shipping delays and poor customer service. The FAQ state that boxes are shipped on the 10th of each month and that tracking information is e-mailed between the 10th and 15th. This hasn't been the case for the last few months. My experience was no different. For December, subscribers received not one, but two e-mails advising of delays. The first was send December 8th, promising tracking info that week. The second e-mail was sent December 12th, and promised tracking numbers on Monday or Tuesday of the following week. I didn't actually receive a tracking e-mail until Wednesday, December 17th and my bag didn't "depart the sort facility" in Chicago until December 21st (which means it wasn't actually sent to USPS and in the mail until the 21st). Once in transit, the bag made it to me on December 29. Just something to keep in mind if you are considering this subscription. The bags eventually do come, they are just incredibly delayed.
Magnolia Makeup Ultra Matte Lip Color in Matador ($15)
The computer printed black and white label is kind of sketchy and I noticed many people online complained about this, but judging from photos on the Magnolia website, this is how they roll. Seems a tad unprofessional to me. The colour on the website is (linked above) is nothing at all like the colour in the tube. Thankfully I like the tube better.
Milani Brilliant Shine Lip Gloss in Nude Touch ($4.99)
Milani is a brand I've seen before through Ipsy. Apparently it's also sold at Walmart in the US. Nothing exciting here. It's a decent neutral.
LA Girl Automatic Liner in Mauvelous ($5)
I'm okay with this one. It will go with one of my Stila Stay-All-Day Liquid Lipstick colours pretty well.
NYC Ultra Moist Lip Wear in Mocha ($0.93)
The card lists this as retailing for 99 cents to $2.99 but Walmart (linked above) sells it for 93 cents, so I'm going with that. Also of note, the packaging of NYC products currently for sale is different than the packaging of this tube, which makes me wonder if this is old stock. The colour is still in the NYC line up, but the packaging has changed. Suspicious!
Lip Monthly bag included five full size lip products with an approximate retail value of $25.92. I paid upfront for a 4-month subscription using a promo code, and ended up paying $51.41 CDN with exchange. That works out to $12.85 CDN per bag, with shipping. It's a decent value, but I'm not really impressed by the products. All are very low end, drug store brands and I don't like that their is no option to customize to ensure I receive colours I can actually use. I've already cancelled my subscription so it won't auto-renew after four months is up. I've also been turned off by the poor customer service and run around received regarding shipping delays. On top of that, Lip Monthly seems to have bailed on their affiliate program without explanation. There are a lot of red flags surrounding this service. I honestly cannot recommend it as one to try.
If for some reason Lip Monthly interests you and you want to risk it, there are a few promo codes available:
- Get a 4 month subscription for $32.99 US (plus shipping) using promo code HOLIDAY299 (your first bag is reduced to $2.99).
- Get 2 months free on a year subscription using promo code HOLIDAY12. This gets you a year subscription for $100 instead of $120, plus shipping.
