FabFitFun VIP Review - Winter 2014 - Lifestyle Subscription Box + PROMO CODE

What is it? FabFitFun VIP
How Much? $49.99 per quarter, plus $8 shipping to Canada
What’s in it? Full-size premium beauty, fashion, fitness, and wellness finds, valued at least $100

FabFitFun VIP is a US based lifestyle subscription box for women. They started shipping to Canada in the Summer and the shipping cost is a very reasonable $8! FabFitFun is a beauty and lifestyle e-zine that is associated to E! News and Giuliana Rancic. Every 3 months, the editors of FabFitFun send out a mystery VIP box filled with their favourite products as well as must have products of the season. It's quickly become my favourite subscription box.

My Winter box shipped December 20th and arrived January 2nd. It probably would have arrived sooner, if not for the holidays.

Early box spoilers indicated the value would be over $300. They also revealed we would be getting a product from Juice Beauty and a bullet necklace.

First look!

Zumba 60-min DVD "Max" ($30) and $25 Gift Card to Zumba.com
I tried Zumba a few times before. I'm not very coordinated but it is kind of fun. Prior to receiving my box, FabFitFun sent out an e-mail to Canadian subscribers titled "Your New Zumba Code + Canada Update". Apparently two of the promo codes included in the box will not work for Canadian customers. To mitigate that, FabFitFun partnered with http://ZumbaShop.ca so that Canadians can still use the $25 gift card. The card is a true gift card. There is no minimum purchase required. Also of note for Canadians, the e-mailed gift card code is to be entered as a gift certificate and the free shipping code they included is to be entered as a promo code. I had to e-mail them to get this clarified as I couldn't get my gift card code to work.

Salted TV - 3 Months of Free Membership ($29.97 Value)
Salted is a TV cooking school. For $9.99 per month, you can get exclusive cooking classes with top chefs around the US and user-friendly step-by-step recipes. The website already offers subscribers their first month free, so with this promo code you can get an additional two months free. A credit card is required at sign up though.

Daniel Stone COCO Coconut Body Candle in Red Current ($42)
Harnessing the remarkable properties of all natural coconut wax and a remarkably high 15% fragrance load, these innovative candles outperform any department store or boutique brand. Coconut wax not only provides the cleanest burn available, but is also the first sustainable wax resource to hit the market.  It is also cleaner burning than Soy candles.
It doesn't say on the product card, but apparently this candle is also safe for use as a massage candle. Use the melted wax as a massage oil. This isn't the same candle sold on the website. Online they have wooden wicks and come with a metal topper. Daniel Stone also has an Etsy site and sells these candles for $36 (versus $42 on the website). I feel like this one being listed as $42 is a tad inflated.

Juice Beauty Green Apple Peel Sensitive (60ml full size, $39)
Juice Beauty’s bestselling, patented GREEN APPLE™ Peel exfoliates and refines to reduce fine lines and wrinkles, and lighten hyperpigmentation. Delivers spa grade exfoliation revealing a brighter complexion while firming the skin.

Lather AHA Hand Creme with Evening Primrose (4oz, $18)
LATHER's unbelievably rich hand treatment contains alpha hydroxy acids, natural substances derived from fruits, that encourage cell renewal and help to minimize the appearance of wrinkles and age spots. In addition, infusions of chamomile, combined with evening primrose and lemongrass, help maintain soft and healthy looking hands. Paraben-free.
The product card lists this as $30, but the actual Lather website sells it for $18 (as do several other sites), so I am going with the actual retail price.

yourMinerals Eye Shadows in Brown Hypnotic Eye Glimmer ($23) and Swedish Winter Eye Shimmer ($23)
Brown Hypnotic is a Glimmering Eyeshadow. With its glimmering effect you can create a dramatic look by applying a thicker layer and by shading it next to other yourMinerals eyeshadows. When used with a thin layer you will achieve that little sparkle that might be necessary for your sophisticated, but yet fun look. When you need a highlighter for your eye makeup to look perfect and your eyes to pop, Swedish Winter is the product to use. Use it in you inner corner of your eye, under your eyebrow or under your under eyelashes.

Half United Classic Necklace in Gold ($34)
At HALF UNITED we’ve made a bold proclamation of our stance against hunger by designing the “Fighting Hunger” necklace. Each necklace incorporates three recycled bullet casing- representing your fight against hunger and putting your stance on display in a major way.
The tag says that one necklace provides 7 meals. That's pretty cool!

Passport to Beauty Tibetan Goji Berry Intense Anti-Aging Eye Serum with Retinol (15ml, $88)

The Passport To Beauty Tibetan Goji Berry Advanced Anti-Aging Eye Serum marries East with West with a rejuvenating and advanced age-defying formula exclusively designed to diminish fine lines and wrinkles, stimulate collagen and elastin while repairing and restoring the delicate eye area.

My goodness is this product ever over priced at $176 per ounce!

Organic Valley Organic Balance Milk Protein Shake (8oz, $2.99)
Organic Balance is a delicious, organic milk protein shake perfectly portioned for a quick breakfast, a light snack, or anything in between. Made with a simple list of high-quality ingredients, it's the perfect shake to keep you energized while you're on the go.
I tried this yesterday and it was very  tasty, but not something I would purchase. I try to avoid dairy products.

Justin's Classic Almond Butter (0.5oz sample, $0.63)
Introducing the world’s first ever incredibly delicious, all-natural, made with real California almonds and a secret nut grinding technique that we’re positive no one else in the World uses since we invented it ourselves, Almond Butter.
I've tried Justin's in the past, but I prefer Sun Butter. Ever since I was introduced to it by Little Life Box, that's all I use!

Special K Salted Pretzel Chocolate Snack Bar (1 bar, $0.50)
All-new Special K® Salted Pretzel Chocolate Snack Bars. Chewy, with a hint of crisp. And 100 feel-good calories. One savory bite, and you’ll know what it’s like to enjoy the best of both worlds.
I wouldn't normally buy this type of product but this bar was seriously delicious. Sweet and salty in one is my favourite type of snack.

Fashion Project Gift Card ($30)
Fashion Project is the industry leading clothing online donation service that raises money for the charities you choose. Through Fashion Project, you're changing the world one piece of clothing at a time! Donate clothing and shop a large selection of pre-loved designer clothing, shoes, and accessories.
Fashion Project does not ship to Canada so FabFitFun is allowing Canadian subscribers to have their Fashion Project purchases shipped to the FFF offices. Once there, FFF will re-direct the packages to your home address for only $8.

The Winter FabFitFun VIP box included 12 products, with an approximate retail value of $301.12 without the gift cards, or $386.09 with the three gift cards. I plan to use the $25 Zumba gift card, and may sign up for Salted, but I definitely won't be using the Fashion Project card. It's a little disappointing that half the products this month are either sponsored or promotional gift cards. Of the actual products included, four of six of them are beauty products. I think this is the least amount of variety of any FFF box I have received. Regardless of the lack of product variety, I do like the products I received. The candle smells lovely. The lotion, peel, and serum will be added to my beauty routine. I'm not sure if I will use the mineral eye shadows. They may be gifted. I like the necklace too, but I'm not sure it is something I would wear. Very mixed feelings this season. I wish they had included fewer gift cards. Three in one box is a bit much. I think given that it was a winter box, I was expecting more cozy, wintery items. I wish there was a scarf or hot cocoa or some other warm and cozy item. Not a terrible offering, but not what I was hoping for.

Sign up using promo code NEW5 to save $5 off your first box!  Alternatively, if you are interested in getting this Winter 2014 box, enter promo code WINTER10 to get $10 off! The next season ships in Spring 2015.

  1. Oh shoot must have deleted the email they sent out for Canadians. Are you able to tell me know the gift certificate and free shipping code for Zumba? Thank you :)

    1. The code is unique to each person since it is a gift card. Try e-mailing FFF and see if they can resend it to you.

  2. You got some nice stuff for the price you paid for the box!

  3. I had exactly the same feelings about this box as you in regards to gift cards. I already used the Zumba card but there's nothing there for 25$ either less or more and if it's less then free shipping code doesn't work. I got a hoodie and in the end paid 6$ for it which is a pretty good deal I guess however I didn't really need a hoodie... I dont know if I'll use the other cards... Disappointing...
