Topbox Review - September 2014 - Canadian Beauty Subscription Box

What is it? Topbox
How Much? $12 per month plus tax, shipping included
What’s in it?  4 deluxe beauty samples
Topbox is a Canadian subscription service that sends four deluxe samples from top beauty brands each month. Topbox is the premiere monthly beauty subscription box in Canada and at only $12 per month, it's a great intro box for those just getting into the subscription box game.

My September Topbox shipped September 16th and arrived September 18th. Fast and efficient shipping, as always.

Normally the products come packaged in a cardboard cylindrical tube (like this), but I have so many already, I opted for the environmentally friendly option offered by Topbox. Instead of the cardboard tube, the products come inside a pretty organza pouch.

Teeez Nail Lacquer in Raging Ruby (full size, $15)
I really don't need more nail polish, but I love this colour! It's going to be my pedi colour of choice for Fall.

Amika Perk Up Dry Shampoo (0.75oz/21.3g/30ml, $4.10)
Featured in the September issue of Marie Claire, this sample was also included in the August US Birchbox. I like dry shampoo, especially for travel so this sample size is perfect. I'm a little unclear on the size/pricing for this product. On the can, the volume is listed as net weight in ounces and grams, however the Topbox pricing is based on a liquid measure of milliliters. A 1oz travel size is 43.87ml, which means the 0.75oz sample size received is the equivalent of 30ml. Topbox claims a 30ml can is worth $11, but it's probably the 1oz can that retails for that much. A full size can is 5.3oz, and worth $29 (although you can find it much cheaper through Amazon). Based on that, this sample size is only worth $4.10.

Bioderma Sebium Foaming Gel (15ml, $1.50)
This is the second Bioderma product I've received from Topbox and so far I'm enjoying the brand. This facial cleanser gently cleanses and purifies the skin without drying. It is paraben free, soap free, and hypoallergenic. A full size is 200ml for $19.99.

Illumalift Brightening Cream (0.5g sample, $4.70)
This brightening cream is similar to Benefit's Lemon-Aid. The card says plus Illumalift under eyes, on the eyelinds, around nasal folds and anywhere you have deep lines or dark areas. I tried it on my under eye circles and there was a definite improvement. A full size is 3.5g for $33. Sample size is estimated. If you are interested in this product, you can save 33% off your purchase at Illumalift. Use promo code TOPBOX593057 at checkout.

The September Topbox contained four products, valued at approximately $25.30. I love the nail polish colour and I'm enjoying the results of the Illumalift. I haven't tried the Amika Dry Shampoo yet but I've read good things about it and in general, I like dry shampoos, so this product is a hit. I have no feelings about the Bioderma cleanser. It's a cleanser and I will use it. Overall it's a decent month for Topbox. I have no complaints.

What do you think of the September Topbox?

  1. Looks like a great box for the month and thumbs up for the fast shipping too.

  2. I got mine last week. Wasn't impressed. It was 3 bottles of the same sun tan lotion. I wrote on thrir Fb saying I wasn't impressed, and they said to emaik them. Which I will do tmmr. And I wouldn't have put that on my 'wish' list.

    1. That's the one I got last month... The Ombrelle Prive box right? I chose to get that one so I had no complaints. It's a bummer you got it when you didn't pick it.

  3. I'm pretty happy too. I got the Bioderma face wash and the dry shampoo too, both of which I will definitely use. I got an Essie nailpolish in a really nice nude-grey that I love, and an Estee Lauder eye serum, which are always useful because I refuse to buy eye serum because $$$$$$ but I know I need it! Happy with it! Also saw you got the Vasanti brighten up product twice from 2 diff boxes. I got it a while ago and haven't tried it yet but I am glad you like it - I'm always a little nervous to try new brands on my face but now I'm looking forward to it!

  4. I got the same box! Except the Bioderma cleansing gel that is not for my skin type, I actually like the rest of them. I think that's what getting these beauty boxes for: trying and finding great unknown products!
