Simple Loose Leaf is a loose tea subscription service that sends five premium teas from around the world. Simple Loose Leaf is unique in that each month they offer a tea menu, called Selection Club, and you can select which teas you would like to receive. You can opt for a sample pack of all five varieties, or go for your old favourites and get two varieties in larger volume. Members will receive approximately 2-4 ounces of tea per month. The monthly tea menu will always incorporate a black tea, a green tea, a white tea, an oolong or pu’erh tea and a flavored tea. Members of Simple Loose Leaf make their selection by the 20th of the month, then the box ships on the 1st of the following month. Before you sign up, read the FAQ to learn more about the Selection Club and important dates.

There are a lot of tea boxes out there, but none that allow you to select your teas. Simple Loose Leaf is a very unique concept so I was happy to receive a complimentary sample box for review.

Ginseng Oolong - Our classic Four Season of Spring blended with just a touch of Ginseng for a satisfying sweetness that isn't cloying.

Sleeping Dragon Green  - Tightly rolled fuzzy buds give a soft, fruity sweetness enfolded by a rich, smoky note similar to gunpowder, but more crisp and complex.

Kenilworth Ceylon Black - A satisfying stand alone black tea, this richly robust Kenilworth Ceylon needs nothing to compliment its full-bodied stature. Stronger than Ceylon Supreme, this fruitier, seemingly apricot flavoured, fuller bodied tea exhibits a little tart acidity that lingers on the tongue for a touch of bite.

Sweet Peach White - White tea, with its sweet, soft floral flavors is an ideal choice to blend with delicate fruit notes.

Bonus - Jasmine Special Grade Green

Tropical Sunshine Herbal (x2 - accidental bonus?) - Tropical Sunshine is an explosion of flavor amongst a rich backdrop of rooibos. With cardamom, red peppercorn, lemongrass, cornflowers, cinnamon chips, orange peel, cranberries, apples, papaya and grapefruit flavor, this elaborate tisane is unforgettable on the palate.

The July Simple Loose Leaf featured five varieties, plus a bonus Jasmine tea and an extra Tropical Sunshine Herbal packet. The large packets all weighed 20 grams (0.70 ounces), and the small sample packet weighed 12 grams (0.40 ounces). In total, I received 3.5 ounces of tea, not including to two bonus packets. It's hard to put a value on a box like this, but I've found that bulk loose teas cost around $3-5 per half ounce, which would be in line with the cost paid per month. I haven't had the opportunity to sample any of these teas yet but I look forward to trying the Tropical Herbal Sunshine and the Sweet Peach White. I think they might be great iced!
