Hitha On The Go for Quarterly.Co Review - #HGQ02 Summer 2014 - Lifestyle Subscription Box

How Much? $50 per quarter plus $20 shipping
What’s in it? Hitha will send items and guides to help you pack light and arrive in style.

Quarterly Co. sends curated packages from people you care about. Boxes contain gifts selected by influential contributors and cultural icons. Currently there are about 30 influencers, curating boxes of everything from technology and toys, to food and cooking, to fashion and home decor, and everything in between.

The Hitha on the Go box is curated by Hitha Palepu, a blogger and travel expert. Every 3 months, Hitha and Quarterly send a package of travel goods and packing accessories. Her blog, Hitha On The Go, offers fabulous travel, packing, and style tips.

I didn't mind the first Hitha on the Go box, but from the comments on my post, it wasn't well received by others. The shoe bag was seen as unnecessary, and for shoes, I agree that it is. I use mine as a packing cube and it works wonderfully and keeps my bag organized and my clothes wrinkle-free and neat. After a few people commented that only 3-items wasn't worth it, Hitha herself commented on my blog post saying "I'll be sure to add more items to #HGQ02". I was impressed by this and expected something great for the second box.

The box was small and light. When I opened it up, I saw it was mostly crinkle paper surrounding four small items.

#HGQ02 is filled with products to help you survive long flights.
"No matter how you shake it, long flights are rough. And while it's nearly impossible to thrive on long flights in economy, the contents of #HGQ02 will definitely help you survive (in-flight AND at sea level)."
Nourish Snacks mr. popular (34g snack bag, $2)
What's one carry-on essential I'm never without? Snacks! I've never heard of Nourish Snacks until now. It's a healthy snack subscription service, kind of like NatureBox. They also run an online snack store. Unfortunately Nourish doesn't ship to Canada. For my American readers, you can save 10% off your first order using promo code QUARTERLY at checkout.

Baggu Tote  ($9)
This tote can hold up to 50 pounds, weighs less than 2 ounces, and can hold the contents of 2-3 plastic grocery bags. It's great for every day use (groceries, work, on the go), or as a carry one to hold all your snacks, magazines, electronics, and other must-haves. I always have a foldable re-usable bag, similar to this one, in my purse, but mine is getting pretty tattered. Good timing, Baggu!

Flight001 Customizable Mini Dopp Kit  ($22)
Hitha uses this in her carry on to pack her must-need in-flight amenities and toiletries. The inside has a waterproof lining, the dark colour hides any dirt, and best of all, it comes with a white marker so you can customize your own design on the outside. Hitha recommends writing a packing list on the lid to make packing a snap. Use it to hold toiletries, electronics chargers, or whatever other essentials you need for in-flight comfort.

Perpetual Shade Luxury Eye Mask ($69)
Holy smokes! A $69 eye mask! This one really is luxurious though. This design is exclusive to #HGQ02 subscribers (and it's gorgeous!). The back side is made of silk for repeatability, and to protect delicate under-eye skin. The oversize shape is specifically designed to block as much light as possible and the mask does not wander or come off while sleeping. I am a shift worker so I often sleep during the day and I use an eye mask every sleep. I have a large assortment of them and have tried every shape, size, fabric, and brand imaginable. I've used this Perpetual Shade one for 2-nights and I 100% agree with Hitha - this mask will change the way you sleep. So far, I love.

The summer edition Hitha on the Go for Quarterly.Co contained four items, with an approximate value of $102. The value of the first box was only around $74, so already this is an improvement. At first look I was a bit deflated because everything seemed so small and... random. After reading Hitha's letter and taking a good look at all the products, I understand where she was going with the theme. The eye mask is the definite star of this box, and for me, it's absolute perfect. I've used it already after two night shifts and it blocked out the bright day light and stayed on my head the entire time! I'm a little bummed that Nourish Snacks does not ship to Canada, so I won't be able to take advantage of the promo code. It would have been nice to have a larger bag of snacks, or more than one small bag. Other than that, I have no complaints about  this box. It's a great value, fun, and well thought out.

  4. I know this is a way old post, but I wanted to comment anyways... I just subscribed to Hitha on the Go in the fall for her box #3, and I must say I was sorely disappointed with the entire experience. I had to email Quarterly to ask for a tracking number more than 2 weeks after I was billed for the box, I was charged duty on the box, and the value and contents of the box itself were not even a little bit exciting. I'm looking forward to seeing your review of it!

    1. I haven't received my 3rd box yet. Hopefully soon. As for tracking number, Quarterly has never provided tracking numbers for international shipments. It says so right in the shipping confirmation e-mail. I was charged extra by Canada Post upon delivery one two boxes once (delivered at same time) and I emailed them about it and they refunded me immediately, without even asking for proof. I've seen some spoilers for box 3 and I know what to expect.... It's really the same as her last two boxes.

  5. Hmmmmm, I didn't even get a shipping confirmation email. I did let them know i was quite disappointed with the whole experience, and about the duty, which they refunded. But even with that $10 back, I still paid $70USD with shipping for $50 worth of stuff I will never use. Boxes 1 and 2 were considerably better, in my opinion.
