Beauty Box 5 Review - December 2013 - Beauty Subscription Box

What is it? Beauty Box 5
How Much? $12/month, $30/quarter, $99/year
What's in it? 4-5 samples from your favourite beauty brands

Before I begin this review, there is a bit of Beauty Box 5 housekeeping to be done. If you are already a subscriber, you may already know this, but I didn't, so I'm going to share. A few months ago when BB5 revamped their website and closed the account section (since re-opened to a select few for Beta testing), they also eliminated the referral program. I don't remember ever seeing an e-mail or announcement about this change. I only found out this week when I e-mailed to enquire the status of my referral credits. They are still honouring those who were scheduled to receive free boxes (1 box for every 5 referrals), but subscribers will no longer earn referral credits. Due to this change, I have updated all my BB5 referral links to affiliate links. What this means is that instead of earning credits towards a free box for each new referral, I will be receiving a cash commission for each subscriber that signs up through my links. If you enjoy my reviews and find them helpful, I would ask that you do consider signing up through my links, but if you don't wish to do so, you can always go directly to www.beautybox5.com.

As always, thank you for reading!

The December box shipped December 9th but didn't arrive until December 30th! I hope it's just the holiday parcel rush that caused the delay and not BB5 reverting to their old, inefficient ways of shipping. Either way, the box is here and it's time to get to the review. This review is even more late because I thought I took photos of the unboxing... actually I know I took photos of the unboxing, but then I somehow deleted them prior to uploading. I had to re-shoot the products, but I didn't have the original packaging to do a proper "first look" photo. The intro photo of the box is recycled from a previous month. I'm a little off my game right now...Still recovering from holiday festivities!

This month's theme is "Naughty and Nice". Because a "modern woman is many things", this box includes "a little bit of everything".

NYX Cosmetics - 3 Color Shadow Palette in Mo Rockin Beats ($6)
I don't wear eye shadow often, so I already found a home for this one.

Body Drench Hemp Moisturizing Daily Lotion (2oz, $1.06)
I really enjoyed the Body Drench lip balm I received from a previous BB5. This lotion smells fresh and leaves my skin feeling very moisturized.

Ofra Cosmetics Lip Gloss Plumper in Sultry (full size 10ml, $12.95)
A full size product and a nice colour.

Clean & Clear Morning Burst Hydrating Gel Moisturizer (0.5oz, $1.17)
This isn't terrible but it's hard to get excited about brands I can find at the grocery store.

Sam Villa Brush Cleaner ($4.95)
The long bristles remove excess styling product from brush bristles and the short teeth untangle and pull out the hair. It's suitable for all brush types. They also say it works to tease your hair.

The December edition of Beauty Box 5 contained five products valued over $26. I paid $8.25 for this box with a one year subscription. Beauty Box 5 continues to be one of the best value boxes out there. While this box didn't knock my socks off, I always like the variety of products BB5 includes; everything from makeup to skincare to hair care. I also like that they often include one or two full sized items. Another plus this month - a few new brands! BB5 is really working to branch out and get new and exciting brands and products featured in the box.

What do you think of the December Beauty Box 5?

  1. BB5 irritates me the way they do not inform subscribers of what's going on? I emailed them months ago asking when subscribers will be able to access their accounts. They said at the end of October members will be able to log in. I still can't access my account and am pretty ticked off that they won't keep us in the loop. However, I'm actually a little more happy with the Dec. box.
