Luxe Box Review - Winter 2013 - Beauty Subscription Box

What is it? Luxe Box
How Much? $26 per quarter, $50 semi-annually, $96 yearly. Shipping included.
What’s in it?  7-8 Trial-size products every season (4x per year)
This is the last Luxe Box in my pre-paid year subscription. The next box is due out in Spring so I have lots of time to decide if I want to re-new. Luxe Box offered three limited edition boxes for upgrade this winter, along with the regular box. There was a LOULOU Edition, Zoomer Edition, and New Year's Edition. For the past  two seasons, I maintained two Luxe Box accounts so I could get one upgrade box and one regular box, but I never found the upgrade box was worth it. Many of the products from the upgrade box appeared in the regular boxes too so there was no exclusivity. For this season, I cancelled one account and opted for only the regular box.

More subscription company cross promotion... Luxe Box has partnered with Panty by Post to offer $25 off any subscription using code Gift25. Expires March 31, 2014. I was thinking of signing up for a 3-month in the new year!

First look

Luxe Box doesn't include a traditional product card. Instead, you login to your account and go to your "Personal Product Dashboard". There you will find all the products included in your box, with detailed description, prices, and where to buy.

Simple Pleasures Vanilla Bloom Hand & Body Cream (8oz, $10)
This is a huge full-size lotion and it smells pretty nice. I received a smaller Simple Pleasures lotion in a previous Luxe Box.

Valentina Assoluto by Valentino (4ml, $12)
Luxe Box is the only subscription that consistently includes fragrance, even when subscribers opt to not receive fragrance! This bottle is adorable, but the scent is not for me.

Loose Button Eye Gel Pads (One set, ~$5.00)
I'm glad to see a new product from Loose Button instead of another make up brush. I already have four brushes from Luxe Box so this is a good change and I look forward to using these while lounging in the tub!

Yves Rocher Sexy Pulp Lash Plumping Mascara (2.5ml, $5.25)
"The creamy texture of Sexy Pulp Lash Plumping Mascara, enriched with Carnauba wax, coats and thickens every single lash without weighing them down." This is one of the smallest mascara samples I've seen. Hopefully enough to be able to test it out adequately.

The Balm Stainiac (1.2ml, $2.40)
This is a lip and cheek stain, similar to Benetint. "Fear not those dreaded streaks most tints leave behind - Stainiac’s aloe-infused gel-based formula is designed to give you more time before the stain sets."

Elizabeth Grant Biocollasis Complex Cell Vitality Victory Eye Serum (7ml, $32)
This little tube is actually a mini full-size. The website sells 7ml, 15ml, and 30ml sizes. "Specifically formulated to help win the battle against eye puffiness, dark circles and lines under the eyes. It detoxifies the skin to help remove under-eye darkness and helps stop dark patches from forming on the skin.

EVOLVH UltraShine Moisture Conditioner (75ml, $7.50)
This is the first time I received a conditioner sample without an accompanying shampoo sample. Kind of odd. "Designed to provide the optimum level of moisture, amino and fatty acids, and pH level for every hair type. The result is hair that is shiny, full of bounce, without frizz and with greater strength and elasticity."

Essie Nail Lacquer in Imported Bubbly ($11 full size)
"Be the toast of the town in sparkling, luxurious seashell lacquer."

My Winter Edition Luxe Box contained 8 products, 4 of which are full size! The approximate value of this box is over $85! I paid $24 for this box, with a year subscription. It's a great value! I like the mix of cosmetics, beauty, hair, and skin care items. It's a very well rounded product mix, more so than any other box. Based on this one, I think I would renew for 2014, but after checking reviews of other people, I'm not so sure. Luxe Box really is hit or miss sometimes. Thankfully mine was more of a hit this season.

What do you think of the Winter Edition Luxe Box? Are you going to continue your subscription through 2014?

  1. I received something very similar to you, and it is OK in my opinion. I am not sure if the people putting the package together are reading people's profiles: I would have loved the eye serum, as indicated by my profile, but didn't receive it. Instead I got two nail polishes, and rarely wear nail polish. I got the shampoo and agree it's weird to get one of a two-product routine. FYI: the eye pads are listed at $30. I can't complain, but I do worry about the hit-and-miss nature of their products, given what other people have received.

    1. I saw their pricing for the eye pads and it's totally arbitrary and incredibly inflated. I checked Google and found these products are sold by the case full by wholesalers for pennies a piece. You can also find them at the dollar store for a few bucks. I estimated the actual retail value at $5 and even that is generous.

    2. Wow, what a price difference on the eye pads! My sub is up in the spring or summer, not sure what I'll do then.

  2. This is an amazing box! I'm jealous that we can't get Luxe Box here in the US. I'd love to get that perfume miniature!

  3. I went with the Lou lou box this time, and I think I would have liked this one better. But the last box I liked the Lou Lou one I received better. So not really sure which way to go for spring!

  4. I only just opened my box (ha, don't ask...) and am actually thrilled with this box! I received a few different items to you, but I'm pretty pleased with all of them. Like, opening each item was an exciting moment (whereas there's usually a few items where I roll my eyes and wonder how I ended up with it).

    1. That's great! I'm still undecided about renewing.

  5. I subscribed to LuxeBox for 2013. I cancelled after that.
Their boxes are not personalized. In every box, I received repeat products that I got in my previous boxes. If you email them they will send a replacement product, but it's a pain to do so every box.
