JustFab Review - Shoe Subscription Service

What is it? JustFab.ca
How Much? $39.95 per month plus $6.95 shipping
What’s in it?  A pair of shoes, a handbag, or an accessory item. Your choice!

I've been looking for a pair of chunky heeled black booties for a while. The ones I really want are $495US, so when I saw a similar pair at JustFab, I couldn't help but sign up! Until now, I didn't realize JustFab has a Canadian arm. No worries about customs fees!

JustFab is a shoe and accessory subscription service. When you sign up, you fill out a "Style Quiz", selecting what sort of shoe you prefer, heel height, colour, and overall style. Then you get a "Personalized Boutique" of shoes and handbag picked to match your style. If you don't like any in your boutique, no problem, you can try the style profile again, or shop from the entire site.

All shoes are offered at $39.95. Once you are signed up, your first pair of shoes is offered at a discount, plus shipping. I got my first pair at 50% off. They are currently offering a 20% off first pair promo. The other day I saw a two-for-one first pair promo. These are the shoes I ordered as my first pair, at 50% off, plus tax and shipping. Total cost for these babies: $27.90!

After your initial pair, you can expect a new Personalized Boutique on the 1st of every month. Visit your boutique by the 5th and select your favourite pair for $39.95, or skip the month. As long as you skip by the 5th, you are not charged for the month. If you don't skip by the 5th, you are charged $39.95, which goes to your account as a credit. There is never any obligation to buy and you can skip as often as you like.

The shoes shipped via Purolator courier and arrived within a few days. The shoes are "Just Fab" brand, but they are well made and pretty comfortable. My regular size 9 fits perfectly. So far, I'm loving my new boots!

  1. I may have swore a little when I saw this. I have such a weakness for boots and can totally justify forty bucks a month, but nowhere to keep them! Not sure I'll be able to resist for long, this looks like a great service.

    1. I plan to maintain this account for the occasional pair... I have more than enough shoes but this might be good for the trendier/seasonal ones.

  2. I have heard some sketchy things about this company sadly. Here's one example from a blog I really trust: http://funsizebeauty.blogspot.ca/2012/12/justfab-review-and-rant.html I can't see myself ordering from that because of that (I have heard this story again from other people more recently) although your boots are cute!

    1. Thanks for your feedback and the link. I did read some negative reviews prior to signing up, but I prefer to give companies a chance and form my own opinion of them, based on my own experience. Every company gets some negative reviews... even I posted one for Fancy, yet others have had wonderful Fancy experiences. So far, I have experienced nothing of what the blogger describes from JustFab. My shoes shipped immediately and arrived within days. I was only charged once. I had no cause to contact CS so I can't speak to their effectiveness.

  3. I've heard some negative comments about this company too. I will be interested in seeing how your subscription fares.

  4. I didn't know there was a Canadian version with free shipping. I tried the regular US version because they had a pair of wide leg boots I really loved. The boots arrived fast and fit awesome. But I didn't get the reminder emails they say they send out, so I missed skipping, and got charged the next month.

I tried calling on 4 different days to cancel my membership, and hung up after 30 min on hold each time. When I finally got through, the girl was rude and kept talking over me every time I said I wanted to cancel. She kept going on and on about how great the offers were, and how I could skip if I didn't want a month. I finally got her to realize I wanted to cancel, and she made it very clear I would lose the credit on file as they categorically do NOT refund. By that time, I was frustrated, I said I didn't care, I just wanted to cancel. That phone call to cancel took almost an hour, which is absolutely ridiculous.

I loved the boots I got, but hated the customer service.

    1. Memberships can now be cancelled online through account settings so no worries about having to deal with CS. I did check that out before ordering.

I too am concerned about forgetting to skip, but I have so many subs like this (Whimsey, Bespoke, LBB, Wantable, Pets Love Toys, Julep), that I now have to keep a little list and go through them all on the first of the month. This one will be added to that list so I don't forget.

  5. I have a Canadian version and they've charged me shipping every time!!

    1. Thank you for bringing that to my attention. I re-read the terms and Canadian shipping is $6.95. My first pair as reviewed above were not charged shipping. Not sure if it was a promo or something at the time. I updated my post to reflect the shipping charge.

  6. I ordered my first VIP order (The Classique bag in tan) and for my first order I got it at 50% off with an additional discount on top of that. I got the items very quickly (within a week) and I was pleasantly surprised! The bag was much bigger than I thought and the quality is great! Im a mom so it acts as my diaper bag / my purse! I can lug everything I need for an overnight in it PLUS kid toys. Yes you do have to 'skip' the month if you are not interested in shopping by the 5th of each month but I don't have a problem with that because I get reminder emails. AND I have a sticky note on my desk at work to remind me as well as I do all of my online shopping at work LOL. So far so good!

  7. Here is what I wrote on their feedback request.
Get more employees, You have HORRIBLE customer support. Your online chat system is so bad it's funny. I feel like I'm talking to robots 99% of the time.
I had to wait 50 minutes to get an answer from the toll free number. I don't wish experiences like this on anyone and this was my 3rd time having issues with this company. It will also be my last.

The word is spreading though. There is more and more posts online with people expressing there dissatisfaction with Justfab's service. By the way, lose the Canadian flag next to your name if you are going to charge us 48$ a month for something advertised as 39.95$. I call all this a very nice and large scam. Congratulations.
    ____
All that being said. They will literally charge you 48$ instead of 39.95 as advertised because of currency exchange. I was told e-mails were sent regarding this but I have not seen one. Why bother putting a canadian flag and making a .ca website if you are going to overcharge us like this?

Don't pretend to be a "Canadian friendly option" when you are not.

Item quality is very so so. Some items better than others. Do yourself a favour, never order leggings or jeans from this place. Mine got to me with holes and rips.

Do yourself another favour, don't waste your time on the online chat service. Wait the hour it takes to get your problem resolved and don't take no for an answer. Someone can refund you. PS considering the 48$ charge and poor service I would suggest everyone turn to real shops for their shoes. Don't waste your money on this.

    1. A lot has changed since I was subscribed! I skipped every month until about September 2014 when I forgot and was charged. I ordered one last pair of shoes to use up the credit, then cancelled. Cancelling was not easy. I called the toll free number and waited. I don't remember how long but it wasn't more than 30 minutes. The customer service agent did not want me to cancel. She kept offering me points, discounts, etc and repeating the benefits over and over. I just kept saying "I would like to cancel" and she would go into the same spiel again. Finally I said, "I know you are doing your job, but I already told you several times that I would like to cancel and while I was open about re-subscribing in the future, after wasting time listening to your pressure tactics, I will never subscribe to Just Fab again". That finally did it and she closed my account and ended the phone call pretty quickly. I agree that the quality is poor. The selection is terrible. In one year I purchased two pairs of shoes - both ankle booties (the 2nd pair is almost identical to the pair reviewed here but different colour). Their CS and the fact that it is such a hassle to cancel is the reason I refuse to subscribe to Fabletics.

    2. Exactly!!! Because of the USD currency, ordering is a pain! You'll see the item is on sale but once it's in your cart, it's like paying the item almost double!!! :( i still want to order but converting it to CAD always makes me change my mind. I haven't cancelled my membership yet. Hoping that they will change the currency to CAD again.
