Ipsy Glam Bag Review - October 2013 - Beauty Subscription Bag

First look - Everything dumped out of the mailer.

 Product/theme card

The theme for the October Ipsy Glam Bag is "The Art of Beauty".

 "Glam Bag" reusable cosmetics bag.

Ipsy redeveloped their referral program over the past few months. It used to be that every 2 referral signs up earned a you a free product. Now referrals earn you points that you collect and redeem for products of your choice. You also get Ipsy points for reviewing the products in your monthly Glam Bag. I redeemed some Ipsy referral points to get a free NYX "Bronze Smokey Look" palette. It contains 9 shadows and 2 lip colours. (Value $14.99)

Now for the products in the October Glam Bag:

La Fresh - Eco-Beauty Oil Free Face Cleanser (10 wipes, $3)
I use face wipes regularly so I'm always happy to have more. These ones are biodegradable and compostable.

Nourish Organic Body Lotion in Coconut & Argan (1oz,  $1.25)
This lotion smells great and feels good on the skin. Nourish Organic is a brand sold exclusively at Target stores. I found it odd for Ipsy to include a product like this. Incidentally, for Canadians who received the "Be Delectable" lotion in their Glam Bag, that is a product made by Canadian company Cake Beauty and sold exclusively at Target stores in Canada.

Sexy Hair - Blow Dry Volumizing Gel ( 50ml, $3.40)
This is a gel that is supposed to expand volume into your hair when blow dried. I already have pretty thick hair so I'm not sure this is a product that would be useful to me. I will give it a try though.

Buxom - Full-On Lip Polish in Dolly (2ml, $10)
This is described as a shimmering muted-plum. I see it more as a mauve-pink shade. It's a sticky formula and a bit sheer, with build-able coverage.

Zoya - Professional Lacquer in Giovanna (15ml, $8)
This is an emerald green metallic colour from the new Cashmeres & Satins Fall Color Collection. The coverage is great and it's a fun, bright jewel tone colour. I like it much better than the baby blue Zoya polish I received from Ipsy in the Spring, but I already have a Julep colour like this, so I will be gifting this one.

My October Ipsy Glam Bag included 5 products valued at just over $25. I paid $14.95 for this bag, including shipping. I also received a bonus gift courtesy of my Ipsy points, valued at $14.99. This month is hit and miss. I will use the wipes and lotion for sure but the other three items will likely end up in the gift pile.

What do you think of the October Ipsy Glam Bag?

  1. So funny how tastes vary. I adore that nail polish and lipstick. I'm not subscribed to Ipsy at the moment but seeing those two items makes me wish I was. Gorgeous!

The new referral system seems better? Especially if you get a gorgeous palette like that!

  2. p.s. totally a subjective comment but I might recommend using comment moderation if you're worried about spam instead of captcha. I often avoid commenting on blogs that I remember have captcha because it is really time consuming in general and basically impossible on a phone. Just my own experience as a reader, if you're happy with the amount of comments you're getting maybe that's not really impacting you or maybe other readers are more patient than me :)

    4. Yeah it's always been on :( I just didn't want to be rude about it and I thought some people might be offended. Thanks for turning it off! Expect more comments from me :)

  3. We got all the same stuff except I got the be delectable hand cream. I think the nail polish is gorgeous! ipsy is giving BB5 a run for it's money. I just wish with ipsy had long-term subscriptions for a cheaper price. The shipping kind of bothers me, but it's still worth it. I just got BB5 and OMG this box is getting on my nerves.

  4. The only thing we got in common was the coconut lotion, which I found to have a weird peppery smell. I love the rest of my products. Thanks for the heads up on the Be Delectable, I'll have to check out my Target since I didn't get it this month.
