Beauty Box 5 Review - October 2013 - Beauty Subscription Box

What is it? Beauty Box 5
How Much? $12/month, $30/quarter, $99/year
What's in it? 4-5 samples from your favourite beauty brands

The October Beauty Box 5 shipped a bit late this month. Not surprising. They have never been good with on-time shipping, even after promising to ship the boxes by the 8th of every month.

The theme for October is "Take it Easy". The idea is that as we transition from summer to fall, it's time to "dial down" our beauty routines and focus on nourishing essentials. Does this mean we aren't getting any makeup this month?

 Product card & first look

La Fresh - Travel-Lite Facial Cleansing Wipes (8 wipes, $2.49)
I will never complain about wipes, because they are great to have on hand, but La Fresh is not a very fresh brand for Beauty Box 5.

Swissco - Glitter Toe Seperators (One pair, $2)
At first I didn't know what these were. It becomes apparent when you turn them over, but glitter side up, I was momentarily stumped. Toe separators are one of the few things I hate to receive in beauty boxes. They are so cheap and pretty well everyone already has at least one pair. It's kind of a useless throw-in.

Model Co. - Cheek & Lip Tint (5ml, $12)
Makeup! I thought we were dialing down our beauty routines? Oh well. This is a good product. It reminds me of Benefit's Benetint. There is an error on the product card though. They list a full size as being 0.03 ounces. That would be the size of a foil packet. Me thinks not.

Aveeno - Daily Moisturizing Lotion (1 oz, $0.88)
Lotions are great for winter but I'm not impressed by a drug store brand.

Nubar Alter Ego Nail Lacquer in Kristal (7ml, $4)
This is another product that doesn't fit with the theme. I don't mind this polish at all though. It's a great clear polish with iridescent glitter. It will be lovely over the crimson red OPI polish I received from The Gift Box Shop.

The October Beauty Box 5 contained five items meant to bring us from summer to fall. Once again I don't really get the theme, but I like that they're trying. All five brands have been featured in Beauty Box 5 before, so there is nothing new here, but I like the mix of products. I will be able to use everything, even those damn toe separators.

What do you think of the October Beauty Box 5 ?

  1. I loved the polish. Two coats looked like a full coverage off white, textured polish. BB5 always seems to be a hodgepodge, but I don't mind! ;)

  2. It's almost the end of the month and I still haven't received by box yet...: (

    1. Mine arrived yesterday. The shipping notice went out on time so I'm guessing it was delayed because of all the holiday back log.
