Ipsy Glam Bag Review - September 2013 - Beauty Subscription Bag

What is it? Ipsy Glam Bag
How Much? $10 per month, plus $4.95 shipping to Canada
What’s in it?  4-5 beauty products every month

The theme for the September Ipsy Glam Bag is "Classic Beauty". I chose not to check out any spoilers again this month. I had no idea what to expect until I saw a blog review the other day. My first impression wasn't great. I saw a lot of brand repetition and a lot of products I wouldn't use. I decided to reserve judgment until my own bag arrived, mostly because there are several different versions of Ipsy's Glam Bag each month.

Included in the bubble mailer was this pamphlet/sample from a new makeup line from Ipsy founder Michelle Phan. The line is called "em" and there are six palette's available. The sample pamphlet above shows the "Career Life" palette, and it depicts the actual size of the palette. It's huge! Each palette includes makeup to create 4 "looks". There are 2 lip colours, 6 eye colours, and 1 cheek colour for each look. The sample at the bottom corner is "Look 3" from the Career Life palette and it's called "Out to lunch". The other Life Palettes include Love Life, Day Life, Beach Life, Party Life, and Night Life. All the palettes are refillable and interchangeable. It's a great idea and I love the Day Life palette. You can read more about em and all the palettes here. They don't ship to Canada at this time though.

 Now for my Glam Bag...

Freeman Beauty - Facial Paper Masks (3 x $1.99 each - FULL SIZE)
I love the MaskerAide facial sheet masks so I'm sure I will enjoy these ones as well.

NYX - Single Eye Shadow in  Cryptonite (2.4g, $4 - FULL SIZE)
Of all the colours available, I'm pretty happy to get this shade. It's one I may actually be able to use. NYX is a repeat brand for Ipsy. I received a NYX blush in my June bag.

Elizabeth Mott -  It's so Big Volumizing Mascara (4ml sample, $8)
I love getting new mascara samples. I've started replacing my mascara every 3-4 months so it's good to have such a big stockpile waiting in the wings.

Starlooks - Kohl Eye Pencil in Obsidian (FULL SIZE, $12)
I've recently started using eye liner more regularly. I am loving my liquid liner from Stila but I am very eagre to try this khol pencil from Starlooks. I'm very happy I received it in a great, neutral colour. Starlooks is another repeat brand. I received a Starlooks Lip Pencil in my June bag.

J. Cat - Fantabulous Lipstick in Honeycrisp (FULL SIZE, $2.49)
I'm liking lipsticks more and more these days but I really don't know about this colour. It's fairly neutral but it's also fairly close to my skin tone once applied. I will have to keep testing. I received two J. Cat products previously, both in my June bag.

My September Ipsy Glam Bag included 7 individual products from 5 different brands. The bag contents have an approximate value of $22.50. I paid $14.95 for this bag (including shipping). I was concerend about too much brand repetition when I saw a blogger review, but was happy to see two brands are new to me. Only three of the brands are repeats. I was also concerned I would get a bunch of products or colours I wouldn't use. Instead, I received great neutral colours, and pretty well everything will be put to use. The only ify product is the lipstick. Overall, I am happy with the September "Classic Beauty" Glam Bag.

What do you think of the September Ipsy Glam Bag?

  1. Looks like you got a great bag. I love the colour of your eyeshadow. I got a white/silver that is exactly like some others I already own. My post will be up tomorrow since my bag came today. I've seen lots of suggestions to layer the nude lipstick with other colours that you find too bright since it really changes the colour.

  2. Looks like we both got bags suitable to our taste.

  3. This was my first ipsy bah. My lipstick was a chubby pencil-type in fuchsia. I don't think I'm quite that adventurous, but otherwise my bag was great.
