Seasons Box Review - June 2013 - Eco-Lifestyle Subscription Box

*This box is closed*
What is it? SeasonsBox
How Much? $34.90 monthly, $99.70 quarterly, $174.50 semi-annually, $349 yearly.
What's in it? 3-5 luxurious full size seasonal must-have products for your home, body and spirit

The theme of the June SeasonsBox is “Dive into Summer”.

There's no doubt that summer is a super fun season. It is the perfect time to travel and embrace adventure, and nothing says summer fun like the tropics. To get you in the spirit of summer, our June SeasonsBox features eco-friendly tropical must-haves for your home, body and spirit. From bold accessories from Ecuador to exotic Amazon body bars, our list of summer products will transport you to a faraway paradise where the palm trees are swaying while you're kicking back and soaking up the sun.

The first thing I saw was the yellow customs tape. CBSA felt the need to cut open, and inspect my box. I’ve never had that happen before. I wonder if they enjoyed the unboxing as much as I do!

After opening the outer shipping box, the next thing I immediately noticed was the purple ribbon (boo CBSA for not re-tying it!). Purple ribbon re-used from the May boxes. No yellow ribbon like the June preview indicated. Incidentally, June was the last month for the two-box presentation. This is what we will see from now on. They also changed their logo. Oh, and instead of being "Seasons Box", they quietly removed the space and now go by "SeasonsBox". These are just a few reasons, of many, why SeasonsBox has been a real disappointment since they moved operations to the US in April. All the special little touches that made the old Seasons Box so unique have all but been abandoned. There is nothing that makes them stand out anymore. Before, there wasn’t a single box I could equally compare to Seasons Box. Now, I’d say "SeasonsBox" is almost identical to Yuzen (although Yuzen is quarterly).

That aside, I’m really happy with the contents of the box this month. It’s a great mix of products to create the perfect lifestyle box. This one is almost as great as the April box, aside from the product card. One more indication that SeasonsBox has gone downhill. Someone made a few copy and paste errors and forgot to proofread before sending to the printer.

Organic Tagua Jewelry, $15 (estimate)
Influenced by high fashion in New York and Miami, Organic Tagua Jewelry works with Ecuador village artisans to design gorgeous jewelry that is not only organic, eco-friendly and sustainable, but provides unparalleled economic opportunity to the artisans who produce it.

When I saw this bracelet in the June preview, I was excited to receive it. I loved the look of it and the fun colours. The bracelet I received is NOT the same bracelet that was in the preview. Aside from the horrid colour, it is a different style entirely. My feeling was verified when I found the wholesaler website and located both bracelets. The June preview featured “TaguaNut Bracelets” while I received a “Natural Stones Tagua Bracelet”. Not a huge deal I suppose but it’s quite disappointing to not receive what was promised. What is that now… strike 3 or 4? I’ve lost count.

Moksa Organic Body Bar, $6.50
No bulk packaging, no wasted materials, and no mile long lists of ingredients that contribute to environmental hazards. Moksa products are handcrafted from only certified organic ingredients, they are carbon neutral, and packaged in 100% post-consumer waste. Each product is also aligned with a special charity and a tree is planted for every product sold.

This bar soap smells great and is rough on the outside for exfoliation.

Vance Family Organic Pineapple & Coconut Soy Candle, Mid-size Traveler, $12.99
This candle will add a touch of tropical magic to any summer night. Vance Family Soy Candles is a company that is committed to making only plant based, all natural, and sustainable candles that make the world a better place to live and breathe.

So far, this is my favourite item. It smells like vacation! Although I have read that the candle doesn't hold its scent while burning.

Organic Rishi Iced Tea in Tropical Crimson, $6.99
Nothing says summer relaxation like a cup of tropical iced tea and Rishi Tea is full of beauty and flavor. It is also organic and fair trade certified. Best of all, Rishi teas are sourced from the best tea gardens from around the world.

I wasn’t sure what “Tropical Crimson” tasted like until I received the product and saw it’s a “delicious Caribbean punch blend with tangy-sweet hibiscus”. I’m thinking it is similar to the Passion Tea from Starbucks which is AMAZING when mixed with lemonade. I’m looking forward to brewing a pitcher!

I paid $29 for this box (with a 6 month subscription) and received just over $41 worth of products. I have three more months on my 6 month subscription and after that, I will not be renewing Seasons Box. While I’ve been happy with most of the products I’ve received, I am not happy with the direction the company is going. It is not what I signed up for back in March. The move to the US without notifying customers was especially disappointing. I signed up for Seasons Box specifically because it was a Canadian box. Now shipping takes three times as long and now we risk customs inspections and duties.

The SeasonsBox referral system has been down for the past two months so I guess that means they are no longer offering referral credits. Not a huge deal because I honestly cannot recommend this box to anyone, especially Canadians. While the products have been good, everything else has been a huge let down for me. It's a shame.

  1. I am so glad I didn't sign up for this :( When I first discovered sub boxes in April I was SO tempted and I figured I'd wait and see another month or two and with all the changes/mistakes happening over the last two months, I'm just so glad I didn't! That said, the tea looks delicious :) I love Passion tea! I actually have that in the pitch format as well :)
