Wantable Jewelry Box Review - May 2013 - Jewellery/Jewelry Subscription Box
What is it? WantableBack in March, Wantable announced they would start shipping to Canada and offered a chance for Canadians to receive their first box free. I registered my e-mail address and waited patiently for news. On May 8th, I received an e-mail from Wantable offering me a chance to be part of a "Canadian Test". I should note, this e-mail was sent to my personal e-mail account and is not associated to my blog in any way, meaning this offer was not made because I have a subscription review blog. The e-mail said only 10 people were given this offer (not sure I believe that since I know of at least 2 other bloggers alone).
How Much? $36 monthly or $40 one time purchase, plus approximately $10 shipping
What's in it? Make up box includes 4-6 full-size premium makeup products. Jewelry box includes 4-5 boutique jewellery pieces. All are picked to match your profile preferences.
To participate in the Canadian Test, I would have to register for a subscription and pay full price for my first month, including taxes, duty and shipping fees. Wantable would then refund me the price of the subscription ($36) and I would get the box for "free", only paying for the tax, duty and shipping. I was also not allowed to share this offer with others, or it would void my eligibility. Wantable warned there could be some issues with the process and order tracking may not work properly at the start.
I signed up for Wantable, opting for a Jewelry Box, completed the style profile and proceeded to checkout. At this point, I wasn't sold on carrying through with the "Test". I wanted to see how much it would cost me. I was surprised to see the additional fees for Canadians worked out to about $10. Not bad at all. I submitted my order and waited patiently again!
My Wantable box shipped on May 14th (with tracking information) and the $36 credit was issued back to my credit card on May 16th. So far, so good. One thing I noticed about the tracking, is that the Wantable box actually shipped from WITHIN Canada. It looks like Wantable is handling their Canadian shipping like Ipsy and Sephora. I'm guessing they bring the products to a distribution site in Canada (Mississauga, looks like) and then the shipments go out from there. Shipping took exactly 7 days, and probably would have been shorter had it not been for the May long weekend.
Now with those pesky details out of the way, let's get on to the box!
The May box is curated by Suzanne Kopulos, a shopping and style expert based in Chicago. The picks for May are on trend with "gorgeous stones, bright statement pieces, and stunning metallics".
Wantable has changed their branding. No more purple boxes. The new black and white theme with the W logo is minimalistic, sleek and modern. The box also fits in my condo size mail slot! That's always a bonus in my books.
Uptown Girls reminds you to buckle up in style with this iridescence green double wrap bracelet featuring a silver buckle.
I really like this bracelet. I don't think it's real leather but it's still good quality. The colour is great for spring and summer. It's edge and pretty at the same time. I think it should be called "triple wrap" though because double wrapped would be way too big!
Phoenix Necklace & Earrings ($28)
The Phoenix Necklace is one of Suzanne's personal favourites, and we think you'll love it too! With a mixture of elements, it will add beautiful drama to your outfit.
I am loving statement necklaces so I was very happy to see this one in my box. It's a total mixed-media piece. There's gold, leather, rhinestones and the bright orange stones. All of it is man-made of course, but it still seems to be of good quality and weight. I love the orange colour and it will be a bright and cheery addition to my jewellery box.
Candi Bracelet ($26)
This bracelet has style to spare!
That has got to be the most lame product description I have ever seen! I like this bracelet though! It's a metal stretch bracelet with rhinestone accents in an antique finish. I see it more as a fall piece than a summer piece but I will still be able to mix it into my wardrobe.
Brigitte Ring ($15)
The Brigitte Ring features a cluster of shimmering elements to add some glam style to your outfits.
I like the ring, but it isn't something I would wear often. I see it more as a cocktail ring to wear with evening attire. It's another piece I would use more in fall and winter, especially over holiday season. I don't love the stretch aspect of the ring, but I like the rhinestone cluster.
I am extremely happy with my first Wantable box. While these aren't pieces I would have picked out for myself, I will get use and wear out of every item. The necklace and the wrap bracelet are my favourite items.
In total I received 4 pieces (5 if you count the earrings), with a retail value of $92! I only paid $10 shipping for this box so that is an amazing value, but had I paid full price, the value is still double what I would have paid!
For now my Wantable subscription has been de-activated. It's not because I am unhappy or dissatisfied with the service. Quite the opposite actually! Unfortunately a Wantable subscription doesn't currently fit into my Subscription Box budget. I re-assess my subscriptions every three months so I will re-visit my subscription situation later in the summer. I really want to try out the Wantable Makeup Box too!

Side note... You may notice I use both spellings of jewelry/jewellery throughout this post. Don't worry, I am not confused! Jewelry is the Americanized spelling and is used when referring to the actual Wantable service (Wantable Jewelry Box). Jewellery is the Canadian (British) spelling is is used when referring to actual items (a piece of jewellery). Both are in the post title to lure web searches! Sneaky of me!
