Ipsy Glam Bag Review - May 2013 - Beauty Subscription Box

What is it? Ipsy Glam Bag
How Much? $10 per month, plus $4.95 shipping to Canada
What’s in it?  4-5 beauty products every month

My very first Ipsy Glam Bag arrived today! Prior to April, Ipsy had a wait list for the Glam Bag but they opened up subscriptions for April and again for May. I didn't hesitate to sign up! The very first thing I noticed is that the Glam Bag ships within Canada. Ipsy is an American based service but it looks like they handle their Canadian shipping domestically, out of Ontario. The bag arrived to me in less than a week! And I LOVE the hot pink bubble mailer and was happy to see it fits in my condo mail slot.

The theme this month is "Spring Fling". The cosmetic pouch is nylon and a turquoise, orange and white chevron pattern. Kind of like a vintage Missoni print!

St. Tropez - One Night Only Instant Glow Body Lotion (Travel size - 50ml, 1.69oz)
St. Tropez's lightweight cream is the perfect party accessory! It gives you an instant beautiful golden glow that’s as easy to put on as it is to take off. Who is it for?: Anyone who wants a quick boost of color when you’re running out of time, heading to a party or want a bronzed glow for an event. For a quick, non-committal, instant tan that simply washes off with soap and water. Why is it different?: Free from tanning agents, One Night Only is transfer-resistant so you can tan and go – and look gorgeous!  Full size: $18 for 5oz. Sample value $6.

I was disappointed to see this because I indicated in my beauty profile that I DO NOT like self tanners. I am fair skinned with red hair so tanning is not my thing.  From reading the description though, this product has no tanning agents in it and is meant to give a "glow" that will wash off with soap and water. I'm curious, but still apprehensive. I'll try it out sometime when I have no where to be.

Juice Beauty - Reflecting Gloss in "Pink" (Full size - 4ml, 1.4oz)
This exclusive, pre-launch of the Juice Beauty Reflecting Gloss will give your lips brilliant shine while keeping them healthy and nourished. A combination of antioxidant-rich acai and goji berries, natural minerals and sweet agave nectar that will give your lips radiant color! Made with certified organic ingredients. Full size value $15.

Gloss is always good to have, although my gloss collection runneth over. I will either keep this for myself or gift to a friend.

yaby - Concealer Refill in "Buff" (Full size - 20mm refill pan)
yaby concealers have a creamy texture and are extremely easy to apply. They are highly pigmented to correct any imperfection on the face and body, are creamy and gentle for around the eyes and are tear proof! Vegan friendly and contains no animal byproducts. Full size refill pan value $4.85

I'm impressed that Ipsy sent me the right colour. I'm always looking for a good concealer and this yaby one gets great reviews. I really need to get myself a magnetic pallet to hold this and the yaby eye shadow pan I got in the May Topbox.

Mirabella - Perfecting Powder (Full size - 1.30g, 0.045oz)
A lightweight translucent silica loose powder that sets foundation to perfect skin appearance. Ideal for all skin types and skin tones. Features 90% natural good-for-you ingredients. Talc-free, paraben-free, gluten-free, FD&C dye-free. Available in one universal shade. Full size, $30.

This is an interesting product but I don't wear foundation. Would it offer the same effect with tinted moisturizer?

ZOYA Nail Polish in "Blu" (Full size - 0.5oz, 15ml)
Zoya Nail Polish and Treatments puts beauty, fashion and style into every bottle with innovative custom color creations and fashion trend adaptation resulting in a truly luxury cosmetic experience. Created with the finest quality pigments and finishes, each bottle of Zoya is as special and unique as the woman who created it and whose name graces every bottle – Zoya herself! The award-winning, ultra long-wearing Zoya formula is also vegan friendly and Big5Free. Full size value $8

More nail polish! Holy smokes, it's a good thing I got the polish bug and paint my nails a couple times a week. I'm not sold on the pastel trend yet so this baby blue shade is getting some serious side eye from this gal. Toes maybe? That'll be a way to ease into it.

My first Ipsy Glam Bag is incredible! Four of the five products received are full size and the approximate value of everything is $64! I was bummed to not receive a perfume roll-on from Pacifica, because I LOVE their perfumes, but when I checked my Ipsy beauty profile, I realized I didn't select fragrances as a product I would like to receive. My own fault. I will definitely take advantage of the promo code supplied by Ipsy to buy my own roll-on and a few other Pacifica products.

  1. I'm not really sure they pay too much attention to the profile anyway, really. I got 2 lip products (the Juice Beauty gloss in "fig" and the Mirabella lipstick in "Charmed") and the St. Tropez bronzing lotion - I didn't have lip products or tanning products selected (because I don't like them). I wish they would. But I normally love my bag, so hopefully this isn't a trend.

    1. Wow that's too bad. If they don't follow the profile then I really lucked out.

  2. I would've preferred your lip gloss colour. The bronzing butter smells soooo good!

    1. We should trade colours when we do our swap!

  3. Instead of the finishing powder and bronzing lotion, I got the Pacifica Vanilla Island roll on perfume, Mirabella Pixie lipstick and Nume Finishing Serum. I loved my Ipsy Glam Bag this month!

  4. wow that's actually a really good value but still ouch on the shipping charge. I've been thinking and I think beauty-wise I will just sub to BB5 because for a year it's so cheap, there's variety of products, and I don't need a ton of makeup/products at this point anyway. Hopefully I will be encouraged to start using and finishing up some of the stuff I already have, and maybe a bigger beauty box sub can be in my future :) (Plus I'll definitely keep getting Julep! Haha.)

    1. I'm okay with $15 per month. It's still less than Glossybox and Topbox is $13.44 with tax so similar price range. Beauty Box 5 is significantly cheaper when you get a year subscription (about $8.33 a month) so it's a great starter box. That was my first!

    2. I did join it :) I think it's a great first box, and I got the Foodie Pages Tasting Box too, so I think although I won't have a ton of full box reviews like you do here which is awesome, I'll get to have a couple and hopefully it'll give me lots of things to blog about :) Do you prefer Ipsy to Topbox? I went on the wait list for Topbox but a lot of people were telling me they prefer Starlooks or BB5 more but I think I'd prefer a variety even if they aren't all full size so I went for BB5 to start :)

    3. I've only received 1 Ipsy and 2 Topbox so far so I can't really judge yet. I plan to hold on to both for a while. I like the product variety more than BB5 though. I haven't ordered Starlooks yet because it's all makeup and all from the same brand so that doesn't interest me too much right now.

    1. I'm happy with them and I made an order with Pacifica using the Ipsy promo code. The roller will be mine after all!

  7. I got my Ipsy bag and here is my review:

I will give it another month. If they continue to send things that disregard the profile, this subscription might come to an end.

    1. Yea it's weird. At first I thought they did follow the profiles because my stuff is all matched up ok but then reading other people's reviews, it's apparent they don't. Some really fair skinned people received honey and pecan (dark!) shades of concealer and I probably could have used vanilla instead of buff. I don't get why companies bother with a profile and then don't refer to it when assembling boxes.
